Patrick Marsh Middle School Band

This Week in Band at PMMS (April 11-15, 2016)

New Information

Band O Rama is TOMORROW! (Monday, April 11)

Band O Rama is the concert where all the bands in Sun Prairie Area School District perform. This year's concert honors our elementary music educators and all they do to nurture the love of music in our students.

Date/Time? Monday, April 11th, 2016. Concert Starts at 7:00 PM in the High School Fieldhouse – All PMMS band members meet in HS Orchestra Room by 6:30 PM to warm-up.

Uniform? Black band shirt, black pants, black socks & shoes

Other? Bring instrument in marked case and music. ALL students are responsible for bringing their own instruments to and from this performance. Student’s using school instruments should bring their “home” instruments unless they make arrangements to check out a school instrument with Mr. Gleason. Percussion should plan to bring their bell sets to the performance as well. Mr. Gleason and Mrs. Haraldson will only bring large percussion needed for the performance.

PHOTO HELP! - The Sun Prairie Star will not be able to make it to the concert. Would a few of you be willing to take some photos during the performance and email/share them with me on Monday night? (I need the photos Monday night as there is a Tuesday AM deadline for the paper.) I'll make sure you get credit for your photography skills! Maybe a Panoramic Photo if you have the option!

Gleason and Schiemann Receive Kohl Fellowships

Happy to report that Chris Schiemann and I have received Kohl Fellowship Awards this year. The Kohl Foundation Scholarship and Fellowship program was established by Herb Kohl, U.S. Senator (Retired) in 1990. To date the foundation has awarded $10.2 million to Wisconsin educators, students, and schools. 100 Wisconsin educators are selected for this award each year. “Education is the key to the future of Wisconsin and our nation. I am very proud of the accomplishments of these students, teachers, and principals and look forward to the great contributions they will make in the future,” Kohl said.

Today we participated in a luncheon at Sun Prairie High School and received the award from Herb Kohl himself. Also the mother of Aleah Frank (PMMS 6th grade trumpeter), Amy Frank received a Kohl Fellowship (she teaches at Waunakee Intermediate School)!!

This is a huge honor for which I'm very grateful. Thank you to my family who puts up with me working constantly, my great colleagues - especially Sharon Haraldson (my work wife). The incredible staff at PMMS and amazing leadership from Mr. Luessman and Mr. Shefchik. Most importantly, thank you to the students and families of PMMS....your passion and enthusiasm for music make this job so fulfilling. I plan to use the $3,000 grant to help pay for next year's ComMission Possible Composer - Brian Balmages!

Summer Band Camp – UW-Whitewater

$485 for resident campers, $435 for commuting campers, 262-472-3165, http://camps.uww.edu

**$20 per camper discount if we get 8 or more to go to this camp (we usually do!)

· The Best Band Camp Around!

· There are a variety of band camps in the area and across the state. The UW-W band camp is exceptional and highly recommended by Mr. Gleason and Mrs. Haraldson.

· If you would like information on other camps, just let us know (but this is the best!)

Many camps have a commuter option, which reduces the cost of attending quite a bit. Check the web sites for details. Students returning from camp rave about the great time they had. They learn an incredible amount of information in a short period. The instructors are eager to share their knowledge and love for music. Camp is a great experience and we highly recommend it for all our students. Follow this link to go directly to the UW-Whitewater Band Camp Site:

Spring Band Concert (May 10)

Our final concert of the year is always amazing! It will be held in our beautiful Performing Arts Center (PAC) at Sun Prairie High School. This concert is significant for a few reasons:

1) All of the PMMS Bands are in the same concert!!

2) We do the world premiere of a new work written for us! This year it is "Rock Music" by Alex Shapiro written for our 7th grade band. The 7th Grade portion of the concert will focus on an "Earth" Theme this year!

3) We get to celebrate another great year and take a look back at some great accomplishments.

6:30 PM - 7th Band Picture (meet in HS Band Room)

6:40 PM - 6th Bands warm up in the HS Orch Room

7:00 PM - Concert Begins (6th grade bands then combined 7th band)
