Rule #1: Make a Healthy Plate

50% of the plate should be veggies and/or fruits while the other should be protein

  • dark green, red, and orange vegetables are advised to eat the most

  • unsalted nuts are selection to choose from

1% milk is a better choice than whole or 2% milk

  • calcium-fortified soy products are an alternative to milk and real dair

Try to make a big portion of the grains you eat whole grains

Some options are:

  • rice
  • bread and pasta
  • whole grain cereals

Do not stick to the same item of protein

  • beans are a source of protein

  • small portions of meat

  • seafood (minimum 2x a week)
