From the Counselor's Corner
Mrs. Maynor
It’s that time of year again for group counseling! In previous years, we’ve had nothing but success and received a lot of positive feedback. The students really enjoyed participating and parents reported seeing a positive change for their child. Believe it or not, I already have several kids asking when we will be starting for this year!
Group counseling involves students working on shared tasks and developing supportive relationships in a small group setting. It is an efficient, effective, and positive way of providing direct service to students with academic, career and social/emotional developmental issues and situational concerns. By allowing individuals to develop insights into themselves and others, group counseling makes it possible for more students to achieve healthier personal adjustment, cope with the stress of a rapidly changing and complex environment, and learn to communicate and cooperate with others. Most important, it shows students that they are NOT ALONE!
When we return from Fall Break, we will be having the following groups:
· Worry Warriors: Dealing with anxiety
· Self-Regulation: Working on ability to manage emotions and behaviors
If you feel that your child would benefit from participating in any of these groups, please contact me! I am looking forward to another great year and so excited to work with the students!
From Mrs. Pape (PBIS Coach)
October is Bullying Awareness Month, in order to meet with each grade level class, I began the Anti-Bullying presentations on September 14th during Library time. I am happy to report that I wrapped up today with the final classes and feel confident that our students have been educated about being a Bully Free school. The students truly had amazing input, were engaged, and asked many important questions over the last few weeks. In addition, each student received a “Kindness Matters” bracelet this week to go along with this month’s theme.
Red Ribbon Week is also this month (October 25 – October 29th) and this year’s theme is “Drug Free Looks Like Me,” helping kids stay Drug Free. We will be having a Red Ribbon coloring contest again this year and also Dress Up/Spirit Days to show our support for being a Bully & Drug Free school, there will be more information regarding these upcoming events in next week’s newsletter.
Have a safe, healthy, & peaceful weekend.
