STAAR
Thank you for your help getting this organized! Please let Mrs. Zumwalt know if you have any questions. Remember to refer to the STAAR bell schedule in the OW TIF STAAR folder. Hopefully, next week will run smoothly and we can mark one testing session in the books!

Behavior Tip of the Week:
Did you know? Teachers can sometimes unknowingly cause misbehavior by triggering students negative emotions.
Toshalis points out 5 practices that many teachers do from time to time, and explains the effect it has on student behavior.
1 - Highlighting ability differences
2 - Grading practice work
3 - Establishing vague norms
4 - Letting students choose their seats
5 - Using tired, old scripts

Now in the midst of things is the best time for us to consider what needs adjustment to our duty posts and times. I have the benefit of this year's experience and want to have equity in the amount of time each of us spends at duty posts. I need to know now if you have any suggestions to the duties we fulfill at assigned spots and times for next year. Please email me directly. Happy Easter.
AVID
The commendations in our Validation Report celebrate
1. Our schoolwide use of collaboration
2. Our strong system of support for all students
3. Our intentional attention by admin and teachers to maintain and expand opportunities for AVID students
4. Our college readiness and AVID are integrated into the fabric of Oakwood.
Other positive comments not in the report: They were impressed by the high level of questions they heard students asking other students. They commented on not wanting to leave classes when it was time to move on because they were enjoying each one so much. Thanks again for the part you played in becoming a Demonstration School.
SPED
As you plan for the activities for the 6th graders rotating on your teams while 5th graders take the STAAR test next Tuesday and Wednesday, please note that activities should be accessible to students of varying ability levels. Since many of the Special Education teachers will be administering STAAR, Fundamentals teachers will not be in their classrooms and all students will stay with their Success teachers and rotate with your teams. If you have any questions about this, please stop by to speak with any of the Special Education teachers or Ms. Williams
The 5th round of SPED progress reports will be sent out Wednesday, March 30th and will be due no later than April 6th at 4pm. Please remember that the information you submit is used to communicate progress directly to the students families.
