ILA Update
We will begin our third anthology this month.
Please continue to watch for the blue Home School Connection Letters that come home each Monday. In addition, please continue to review high frequency words with your child each night. As a reminder, these are the words that are found in the Robust Vocabulary and High Frequency Word folder that was sent home at the beginning of the year. These words are what the children are tested on throughout the theme. The extra practice at home, in conjunction with what we do in class will benefit the children greatly.
Spelling Update
Spelling lists will grow to 15 words each week starting with next week’s lesson (#13). The daily assignment will not change.
Math Update
We will be completing Unit 4 this month and beginning Unit 5.
Please have your child practice his/her math facts nightly (addition and subtraction to 10). Flash cards are an oldie to help learn automaticity or there is a neat website http://www.oswego.org/ocsd-web/games/Mathmagician/cathymath.html that may benefit your child as well.
Science and Social Studies Update
The children will be learning about penguins and animals that hibernate during the beginning of the month. Then we will learn about Martin Luther King and his fight for freedom during Social Studies. A special homework assignment for the parents will be coming home soon. Finally, we will be experimenting with magnets as the month comes to a close.
It might be a good idea for your child to keep a tube of chapstick in their school bag. So many children are experiencing chapped lips and complaining about it throughout the day.
Have a great start to the New Year!
