GRANDPARENT/SPECIAL FRIEND DAY CELEBRATION
What a wonderful weekend at SCCS last weekend! Grandparents and special friends visited our students on Friday morning. Kids LOVE spending time with these loved ones, showing how they are learning and living God's Story at SCCS! Some grandparents were also able to join through technology.
Our students are SO VERY BLESSED! Thanks to all who shower love, wisdom, and prayers on these treasures of God each day!
TRAIL'RAISER NIGHT 2021
THANK YOU to all who came to Trail’Raiser Night on Saturday! What a FUN night with the school filled with SCCS families and supporters!
We are still working on finalizing numbers, but can say that at least $105,000 was raised on Saturday alone to defeat the debt!! (Our final number will be higher, but we just need a little more time to calculate a firm number). We started the event at $198,000 debt remaining…and in one night you helped move it below $100,000!
THANK YOU to ALL who donated, baked, volunteered, bid …every person was needed to make this event successful and we give GOD the glory for His provision through you!!
TRUTH T-SHIRTS
You may still purchase Truth T-shirts! Check out what’s left in the school main entrance (8am-4pm) - $25 for one shirt, $20 each if you purchase two or more!
CSI ACCREDITATION VISIT
We are excited to welcome the site visit team from Christian Schools International (CSI), which is the organization that certifies our school with the State of Iowa for accreditation. This team will spend three days next week observing, interviewing people, looking through documents, and discussing together how we are meeting our mission at SCCS. Their goal is to validate a self study that we have completed and to help us set goals for the next 5 years. We covet your prayers during this important process.
COMMUNITY CARE PLAN UPDATE
We continue to move forward with our plans to release the Community Care Plan, paying attention to school data and our community context. We had a wonderful time at Grandparent/Special Friends Day and the Celebration of Learning/Trail’Raiser Night. It was such a blessing to be able to have these events face-to-face to celebrate the gift of Christian education!
Based on the current situation in both our school and the community, we will move forward with plans for May and the rest of the school year, which include:
May
- Chapel in the gym, whole school
- Whole-school community storyline celebration (soccer field)
- Face-to-face graduation
Determined by Public School
- Masking on buses
Through the End of the School Year
- Protocols for quarantine/isolation if testing positive or exposed
- Families and employees self-screen at home; stay home if you’re not feeling well
- Full-time nurse hours, satellite clinic structure
- Band-Aids, mints, cough drops for classrooms to reduce nurse visits
- Social-emotional health activities for students, faculty, and staff
- Increased handwashing, using hand sanitizer

- Support staff holding doors open in the morning for students

Thank you again for your support of SCCS during this unique time. It is a joy to partner with you!
FOOD SERVICE NEWS
- Dishwasher volunteers needed: If you are able, please consider signing up for a shift (11:15-1:00) to help in the cafeteria by washing dishes/wiping tables before the end of the year. This is a volunteer opportunity that saves the school many hours during the year (it takes 3 volunteers per day!) and also gives you an opportunity to eat lunch with your child. Thanks in advance for stepping up and helping us finish the year strong!
If you would like to help out you can sign up here. If you have questions, contact Carmen Mulder (cmulder@siouxcenterchristian.com).
You can find the lunch and dishwashing schedule here.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION
- Please check the online calendar for upcoming events (http://www.siouxcenterchristian.com/calendar.cfm)
- Transportation information for Friday, April 30 - Sioux Center Community Schools do not have school on April 30 but SCCS does. Only the two Sioux Center Christian School buses (2014 and 2020) will be running the morning and afternoon routes that day. All other students will need to have their own transportation to and from school.
INTRUDER DRILL
Each year, we are required to do an intruder drill at school, and it's also a good thing for us to practice. Please note that this year it will be April 22. We will be talking to the students ahead of time (in age appropriate ways) regarding the procedures for this drill. Note that we will not be practicing with any "intruder" people, and we will not be evacuating. This drill will be kept very low-key.
FOLK SONG CELEBRATION
Parents, grandparents, and family friends are invited to join the 2nd-4th graders on Tuesday, May 4 to share in a folk song celebration. This will include singing several folk songs and dancing several traditional dances. Please note the times for your child’s class:
- 8:30-9:10 - 2W, 3K, 4VK
- 9:15-9:55 - 2VK, 3F, 4W
- 10:00-10:40 - 2S, 3W, 4F
4Care
Sioux Center Christian School offers a play-based, child-care opportunity for 4-years-olds enrolled in preschool called 4Care.
If you have a child who will be in preschool next year and are looking for childcare for the other half of their days, this is a great place for your child to enjoy hands-on, child-led, play-based learning at SCCS when preschool is not in session.
