News From The Library

See You at the Groove!

The library will be hosting a MakerSpace at the Gayman Groove from 4-6pm. We will be using Ed Emberly’s work to create fingerprint bookmarks and revealing next year’s visiting author as we work together to create a handprint banner for her. The Little Free Library will also make an appearance! We hope you will stop by and say “hi!”

…And the WINNER is………..

For the last four weeks, Gayman Elementary’s 5th and 6th grade students have been voting in library to narrow down a field of 16 contenders for Gayman Elementary School’s book of the year. Our “Sweet 16” in this year’s race were:

Mr. Lemoncello’s Library Olympics
TombQuest (series)
Dog Tags (sweries)
New Kid
Travel Team
Bridge to Terabithia
Rain, Reign
Absolutely Almost
Because of Mr. Terupt
El Deafo
Belly Up
Artemis Fowl (series)

It came down to Rain Reign vs. Mr. Lemoncello’s Library Olympics. Mr. Lemoncello won by over 30 votes. This is especially meaningful as Chris Grabenstein, the author of Mr. Lemoncello’s Library Olympics, visited Gayman’s 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students last year. He made quite an impression when he visited, and it is so great to see that the enthusiasm for his writing continues in our building! All 16 books were widely discussed in library and make great options for summer reading.

Little Free Library Needs Used Books!

Did you know that Gayman Elementary School now has its own

Little Free Library, thanks to the generosity of Mt. Patio and Pool? The students love visiting the library and exploring new material to bring home. Right now, the library is HUNGRY for new material! Please consider sending in any used books you have at home to fill the Little Free Library. We will have it out at Gayman Groove to allow students to exchange books and choose fresh reading material!

Boomerang Award

This year, Gayman will continue to accept nominations for the Boomerang Award, which is our way of honoring students who best demonstrate their own developmental assets. What are Developmental Assets? Students possessing a combination of “40 Assets” are typically most successful in school and in life. These assets have the power to influence choices young people make and help them become caring, responsible adults. For a complete listing of the 40 Developmental Assets visit: www.

May #15-Positive Peer Influence. Young person's best friends model responsible behavior. They are a good influence. They make good choices. Boomerang nominations may be emailed to Suzanne Vass at, or printed out and sent into the office.
