1. The Last Days?!
Good morning everyone,
Now, I have to fess up...this week has been most unexpected. Whilst it definitely feels like we are coming through this challenging time, and hopefully entering the 'Last Days', it is also a reminder that we may need to learn to co-habit and continue to manage risk very carefully. I'd like to say a huge thanks to Mrs. Dunnell Paley for acting swiftly in taking the decision to close. This was not an easy decision to make, however, I fully support the timing and rationale that followed immediately upon knowing we had a positive case. I'd also like to wish the child and family well!
So, onwards and upwards? I certainly hope so; the plan for the Summer is to exhaust every opportunity and to become saturated in positive learning experiences!
Have a restful, peaceful Easter!
Mr. Francksen
Executive Headteacher
Covid-19 Isolation Reminder

A reminder that your child’s isolation period ends at midnight on Sunday 28th March; they can resume normal activities from Monday 29th March, provided they have remained symptom free.
2. Rowan's Adventures...
In our very short week together Rowan Class made great progress in their independent story writing. I’m incredibly impressed at how the children are now able to write multiple full sentences to create their own paragraphs. We will continue to complete these on our return to school and I’m sure the children will be very excited to share these with you.
If possible, please could you save lots of thin cardboard junk for us over the Easter break. Easter egg boxes, cereal boxes, egg cartons, and toilet rolls would be perfect.
3. Hazel's Exploits...
The children had a wonderful time in their recent science lesson where we studied patterns of motion using a paint pendulum! We made some mesmerising patterns by varying the height and force applied. There will be lots more fun happening next term when we will be learning all about pirates! I hope you all have a wonderful Easter break!
4. Oak's Endeavours...
Children have enjoyed their recent combined art and DT lessons. They have been creating miniature worlds which characters from their writing can inhabit. What a shame we have not had the final few days on this - children were due to learn some sewing stitches. Many have chosen to pair up for this activity and the speaking, listening and teamwork skills displayed have been a joy to witness.
5. Wraparound provision/Breakfast & After School Clubs
Thanks to everyone who has completed the survey so far; we have used your responses to help tailor our club's offer for the Summer term and we are pretty pleased with what’s on offer. Have a look at the club's timetable to see the activity(ies) at each after-school club for the Summer term from Tuesday 13th April, and note that booking will go live on Saturday 27th March at midday.
Please remember to let the office know if your child’s place is no longer needed on any After School Club session as we have a high demand on some days and keep a waiting list.
There is still time to respond to the survey; it closes on 29th March.
Parent feedback:
“This has been fantastic for my children! They absolutely love it! It's been great for their fitness, mental health, and in times of such uncertainty and lockdowns...This structure and routine are much needed! Thank you to all involved!”
“As a working parent, I feel very lucky to have the wrap-around care in place, not to mention that we are offered this without a cost implication! It really does take a lot of stress and worry out of finding childcare!”
Breakfast Club is Back...beginning Tuesday 13th April!
6. Around the World Challenge Completion
1,095.33 miles in 40 days!!!
WOW! A huge well done for everyone who joined this community challenge. We achieved an amazing 1,095.33 miles 40 days. Well done everyone; your medals will be on their way shortly! Hear Hear! What's the next challenge, Mr Hurkett?!

7. Easter Holiday Sports Clubs
Thank you to all those who expressed an interest in your child(ren) attending sports clubs during the Easter holiday on Tuesday 30th March and Wednesday 31st March. No further bookings are possible now.
The provision is FREE but we do ask that you commit to the club session(s) you’ve booked for, otherwise, we will need to make a charge to you (£7 half-day, £12.50 full day) to help cover our costs. The clubs run from 9.00-15.30 each day and children should arrive in suitable PE kit including footwear. Don’t forget to provide water, weather-appropriate clothing/hat, sunscreen, and a packed lunch for those attending a full day.
These clubs will run as intended UNLESS we hear of any further positive Covid-19 test results for which SCC/Public Health England advise us to extend the school bubble isolation period. If this happens, participants’ families will receive an email/text.
8. The Big Ask
Children’s Commissioner, Dame Rachel De Souza, contacted all schools this week to give us advance notice of a major review of the future of 'childhood'. She says, “My role is to speak up for children and young people across England. As the government starts to plan how to rebuild after the pandemic, I want children to be at the heart of it. I need your help to gather children’s views and priorities for the future so that I can make sure the government takes them into account. My ambition is to reach every child – the more I hear from, the stronger this work will be.”
I’ve just launched the Childhood Commission, a once-in-a-generation review of the future of childhood. This review begins with ‘The Big Ask’: the largest ever survey of children in England.
The Big Ask will be launched on Monday 19 April in the form of a short online questionnaire. We will complete this in school/let you know when this is available for you to fill in with your child.

9. House Competition
House Captains have launched their House Competition which will run until the end of the first week of the summer term. Children are trying to read as many books as possible and will earn Dojo and House Points for each book they read. The winning house will enjoy an afternoon watching a film adaptation of a children’s book and games. The winning pupil in each class will receive a bookworm badge. Good luck and let's get reading!

10. Active Outdoor Discovery/Map Skills - change of day
We have been able to move the booking for our Map Skills day to Wednesday 14th April. Please ensure your child has wellingtons or other sturdy outdoor footwear and a coat with them on this day.

11. West Suffolk Hospital requests your views
We are one of 40 Trusts to receive Government funding for a new hospital. We need your help to plan what our new health and care facility and services will look like.
Please take your time to share your views by completing the following short survey about our services, the patient experience, and what you would like to see in a future hospital. One of the areas we will be discussing is how we plan our future wards. We plan to provide at least 70% of beds as single rooms in line with Department of Health standards for newly built hospitals.
We have a fantastic opportunity to design what we want and need rather than improving what we already have, for example making sure all patients and staff are visible to each other, regardless of whether they are in a bay or single room. With this in mind, please answer the questions from an ideal future perspective rather than using our current provision as a basis.
You can take a tour around an example of how a singular room and ward could look. These are mock-ups of how other hospitals have designed their bedded bays and singular rooms and are for illustrative purposes only.
The survey is currently live at https://www.wsh.nhs.uk/New-healthcare-facility/Please-tell-us-what-you-think.aspx and we would welcome you to share it with friends and family too.

What to do if your child develops symptoms of COVID 19
If your child develops symptoms arrange for a COVID PCR test. This can be done via https://www.nhs.uk/ask-for-a-coronavirus-test or by calling 119. The symptoms are:
a high temperature;
a new, continuous cough;
a loss of, or change to, your sense of smell or taste.
If their test is negative they must still continue to self-isolate for the 10 day period, regardless of the negative test result.
If their test is positive they will need to self-isolate for 10 days from the date when their symptoms start. All your household members must self-isolate for 10 days.
The date of symptom onset is day zero.
Lateral flow testing (LFT) advice for asymptomatic people
As we have previously shared with you in recent newsletters, the government now advises that all adults in a household, with a primary or secondary school student, take part in the community lateral flow testing scheme if they are asymptomatic. You can order tests online or visit the Suffolk County Council website to find out more about local community testing centres.
Reporting a positive test result
If you or anyone in your household has a positive test result (whether via LFT or PCR), please inform the School:
Out of hours (evenings, weekends, and during holiday periods): by completing the Google form below;
Within school hours (term-time, 8.30am to 3 pm): by emailing bardwell@tilian.org.uk
You will also need to follow the government guidance about reporting the result to Track & Trace.
