Summer and Sunshine on the horizon!

Testing is complete and all of Miller's Littles made significant progress in reading this year. Their growth is nothing short of amazing! These firsties have worked SO very hard and had a lot of fun with literacy this year. Reading to our literacy dog Lucy, word study centers, and reading outside during reading groups were some of our favorite things to do while developing our reading skills. Next Thursday is our last day with Lucy, so if you are able, please send in some dog treats or a note of thanks to give to her owner Ellen!

We are "egg"static our chicks have hatched!

Science provides the key to understanding the natural world. The application of science to relevant topics provides a context for students to build their knowledge and make connections across content and subject areas. Various strategies can be used to facilitate these applications and to promote a better understanding of the interrelated nature of the world. Miller's Littles decided to hatch chicks to investigate and learn more about life processes. The state of Virginia says students will investigate and understand that animals, including humans, have basic needs and certain distinguishing characteristics. Key concepts include

a) basic needs include adequate air, food, water, shelter, and space (habitat);

b) animals, including humans, have many different physical characteristics; and

c) animals can be classified according to a variety of characteristics.

We learned that and SO much more by having our eggs and chicks in the classroom this past month!
