Reflections from the Principal
A few reminders as we enter the third week of school:
- If you are picking up or dropping off a student for school, please do so at the main entrance of the school building. The U-shaped drop off by the student parking area is for buses only and no cars should be entering to drop students off. Please help us with this, as safety is our main priority.
- We are using a new bell schedule this school year. School starts at 8 am on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Wednesday, school starts at 8:50 am.
- All students dropped off at the main entrance in the morning should report to the cafeteria unless it is after the first bell at 7:50 am on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday and after 8:40 am on Wednesday's.
- If you have not completed the school registration paperwork for the 2019-2020 school year, please contact the main office ASAP.
Over the course of the last week, students have started carrying a chrome book assigned to them from class to class all day. This is new this school year, as in the past we have kept chrome books in each classroom for students to use. Students now pick up their chrome book prior to the start of the school day from their 7th period classroom teacher and then leave it in their 7th period classroom to charge overnight. We have had a few kinks to work out in this new process, but we are sorting through those as they come along.
Again, I am thrilled to be your principal for the 2019-2020 school year! Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me.

New High School "Incentive Time"
In an effort to reward students for academic success and minimize the number of students in homeroom so that assistance for those in need is more manageable, some students will qualify for incentive time on Tuesday and Thursday. The library, gymnasium, and cafeteria will be open for students to work together on homework, relax, purchase snack items, or play basketball. To qualify, a student must not have received a consequence from the office, not been on attendance contract, and …
9th Grade: Have all A’s and less than 4 tardies
10th Grade: Have all A’s and B’s; and less than 4 tardies
11th Grade: Have all A’s and B’s; and less than 4 tardies
12th Grade: Have all A’s, B’s, and C’s; and less than 4 tardies
Each Monday, Guidance and the office will provide homeroom teachers with their list of students that qualify for incentive time. Teachers will then notify those students that they may report to one of the incentive locations on both Tuesday and Thursday. They do not need to report for attendance those two days.
Our hope is that this will provide each high school teacher with a manageable number of students to help with their assignments. If they are in your room, they are needing some help academically. This will also provide incentives for students to perform well at all points of the semester.
FC Advisory Time
We have once again implemented an Advisory period into every student's schedule. The Advisory period at FC promotes meaningful relationships between staff and students, while also providing academic support to students. In these weekly meetings with Advisors, students are able to experience an individualized learning environment. The structure of this time is arranged so that Advisors can monitor student academic progress, as well as social and emotional needs, and student career options.

SEFSC Social Emotional Learning Coordinator, Mrs. Britton
My name is Kim Britton and I am the new Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Coordinator for SEFSC. Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. Our goal at SEFSC is to teach your entire student. Meaning we are not just concerned with academics and standards, but also social skills and emotional intelligence. We already have some great things happening in the corporation to support your student and your family such as the backpack program, strengthening families, the sensory and reset room, brain breaks, restorative practices, and neuroscience training. We hope to expand those efforts and continue to find ways to meet the needs of our community. We hope to continue to build family and community partnerships in order to help reach and teach our students. Thank you for your continued support!
