Some things to know for these days of testing:

- Students need to be on time and in their seat by 8:30 am
- The campus is closed to visitors on these 3 days of testing, and this includes during lunch.

Mental Monday on a Thursday During Husky Time
Thursday, May 9, is our 9th and final "Mental Monday” during Husky Time (this will be on Thursday of this week). We have 5th and 6th graders doing 2 different lessons:
6th graders will focus on Perseverance as it relates to having perseverance to finish strong on the STAAR Exams next week.
- Students will discuss what it means to have perseverance and watch the video (see link below) about the Olympic Athlete, Derek Redmond, at the 1992 Olympic Games. Students will go around the room and affirm each other on how great they are going to do on the STAAR!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KefDnEpLMW8
Inspirational Story of Derek Redmond
Derek Redmond is a favorite sprinter athlete to win the 400 meters race in the 1992 Olympic Games event, but suddenly in the middle of the race, his leg is hit by a hamstring injury that makes him no longer able to run fast. He was devastated and cried with the hamstring injury he got, the medical team approached him. With a spirit that did not ...
Our 5th graders will focus on Leadership and what that means on a daily basis.
- Students will discuss the word leadership and talk about how most people view leadership as being this mammoth responsibility or task, but that it really is about the small things they do on a daily/regular basis that has a powerful impact on those around them.
- They will watch the video about creating "lollipop moments" and have students share any lollipop moments they have experienced and write on their own lollipops to display their lollipop moments.
We have all changed someone's life -- usually without even realizing it. In this funny talk, Drew Dudley calls on all of us to celebrate leadership as the everyday act of improving each other's lives.

Dress Code - We need your help!
It is that time of year when the weather gets warmer, and the students want to test the waters with the dress code.
Our ultimate goal is for our students to be in class, however, students who are out of dress code will be placed in ISS if they cannot correct the dress code issue with extra clothes, calling a parent for backup clothing, etc.
Here is what we begin seeing that is not within dress code:
- Short Shorts - if the shorts are more than 5 inches above the knee, then they are out of dress code. Easy way to measure is the length of a notecard.
- Slides - Socks and sandals are not allowed.
- Leggings - These are okay as long as the shirt covers the front and back areas; however, we are seeing shorter shirts with the leggings. See through leggings are an even bigger no-no!
- Gaping/Huge Holes in Jeans - Jeans that have small holes from the knees down are not a major concern, but jeans with multiple holes, large and frayed holes, and holes above the knee, are not okay. If the student has leggings under the holes, that is fine, but no leggings=no bueno!
School Ends at 4:00 PM
Please make sure you pick your child up from school every day on time.
Friendly Reminder about Students Arriving Before 8:00 AM
Several students are arriving VERY early each morning, and they are causing disruptions in front of the school. They are bringing outside balls and play equipment that is NOT allowed.
Icenhower staff begins their duty day at 8:00 AM. Students who are dropped off before 8:00 AM will not be supervised.
The school day ends at 4:00 PM. Please make sure your student is picked up in a timely manner.
No Messages Will be Delivered After 3:00 PM
We understand that emergency situations can come up, and those will be handled accordingly.
