The Attacks of 9/11

Background

Four teams of terrorists hijacked commercial airplanes departing from Boston; New York, New Jersey; and Washington, D.C on the morning of September 11, 2001. The first plane flew directly into the north tower of the World Trade Center, the second plane flew into the center's south tower. The third plane crashed into the Pentagon in Virginia, smashing a wing of the government's military headquarters. A fourth plane that appeared to be headed for Washington, D.C., crashed in western Pennsylvania, after passengers rushed the terrorists. 2,819 people died on that terrible day in September.

Media Portrayals of 9/11

There are many ways that the media portrayed that awful day in 2001. One of those many ways is a conspiracy that states that the towers were blown down with explosives placed in selected locations. Some witnesses heard explosions from inside the building as they tried to escape. Many architects and scientists even say that a plane’s fuel cannot produce enough heat to melt the steel frame of the two buildings that collapsed. Another conspiracy says that right before the September 11th attacks, an “extraordinary” amount of put options were placed on United Airlines and American Airlines stocks, the same airlines that were hijacked during the attacks. Many think that traders were tipped off about the attacks and profited from the tragedy. Then there are the stories that the news talked about. They said that two commercial airplanes crashed into the towers and one crashed into the Pentagon.

Biases

There can be many biases that pertain to this certain event, but the most prevailing one is bias by story selection. Many of the stories heard and read regarding the attacks of 9/11 are one-sided. They all state and mention the same thing- planes crashed into the towers. You only get one side of the story and not the opposing view of all these other stories.

Criticism

There are many criticisms that apply to this event. The most prevailing one is historical criticism. There are a lot of stories portraying the event that happened that fateful day. Many of them saying the same things but others not. Today, many people have their own opinions of what happened on 9/11 and truly, no one really knows what happened.

What do I think?

I think the government pulled this whole stunt to get more revenue. There is actual evidence that shows the building getting shot at before any of the planes even crashed into it. An airplane is made of aluminum which in no way can destroy a building made of steel. The Pentagon was under construction in the wing the plane crashed, there wasn't a lot of people in it.
