Lewis Ledger - Week 6

September 3, 2018

Sunny Heights is where everyone is valued and respected. Our vision is to inspire a passion for learning in a student-centered, family friendly environment.

Week 6

LABOR DAY!! I hope everyone has enjoyed a 3-day weekend! This week we will have our first data meetings. It is a good time to refocus on the foundational practices we know will lead to student success and how we are implementing those. Let's have a GREAT week!

SHOUT OUTS

Shout Out to ALL staff for a great Back to School Night! It is always great to see staff and families interacting in a positive way.

Shout Out to the KG team for addressing behavior concerns with in-class social skill lessons! This is Tier 1 focus at its best! Students were struggling with being nice to others...so we TEACH them! Great job!

Shout Out to the newest member of our Sunny Heights family, Benjamin Bunce. We are very excited for him to help continue the great work that has been started!

Shout Out to the 4th Grade on a well run field trip to Conner Prairie. Despite the heat and threat of rain, the students, teachers, and HUGE number of parent chaperones had a great time.

Data Blast

93% - The percentage of students at Sunny Heights that have NOT received a referral in the first 5 weeks! That is 432 total students....that is AWESOME!!

Attendance Status

KG:96.12% 1st: 97.61% 2nd: 96.17% 3rd: 96.33% 4th: 92.9% SH Total: 95.87%

Week 5 was our best student attendance week! What a great way to lead into Attendance Awareness Month! Continue to look at ways that you can influence your student's attendance.

Staff Focus and Action Items

Data Meetings - Data meetings will be on Tuesday or Wednesday this week. The good work done on Wednesday will foster great discussion during our grade level data meetings.

Classroom Observations - Classroom observations will be beginning in the next couple of weeks. I will begin with Unannounced (15-20 minutes, no scheduled meeting). Observations, but will begin scheduling Announced (1 full lesson, scheduled meetings) next month.

Tier I PBIS Calibration - I will be sending out more information this week about looking at coherence to our Tier I PBIS expectations and practices. The vast majority of students are responding to Tier I interventions at this point, so it is a great time to focus on those practices to continue building a strong foundation for student success.

Classroom Game Time - Coach Bailey has put a sign up sheet up in the teacher's lounge for anyone interested to sign up for Classroom Game Time!

Social Emotional Learning Tip of the Week

We continue to focus on the building of positive learning environments. As our continues, the emphasis on establishing routines, expectations, and procedures in a calm way must continue. This article on maintaining calm control of the classroom has some great suggestions.

Visuals - Progress Pt. 2

"The number one reason why some people give up so fast is because they tend to look at how far they still have to go, instead of how far they have gotten." - Unknown

Big picture

Resources & Reminders

Teacher Data Collection Form - Please fill out Teacher Data Collection Form when applicable; this was very helpful to support good data discussions throughout the year last year. Be sure to select your classroom tab before entering data.

Tier I Classroom PBIS - Continue to practice PBIS Tier I at the classroom level. Reach out to the committee for questions or clarification. It is very important that we commit to the process and provide consistency for EVERYONE. We will see the results that we are striving for if everyone is committed to being part of the TEAM!

Social Studies & Reading Support - If you would like me to come in to teach a social studies lesson for your class, please let me know a time, day, and topic that would work. Also, let me know if you would like me to come read a story to your class.

Professional Growth - A couple reminders in regards to professional growth expectations: PGP points should be uploaded into your SFS so that they can be applied to your evaluation; everyone should have a professional learning goal that they have set with Mercedes.

The Safe Schools - Remember to complete your required trainings. Safe Schools Directions & Link (Link to the Login Procedures) The Blood Borne Pathogens training is the first one required.
