Pumpkin Launcher MakerSpace Challenge
Launching! Students in Mrs. Lugo's class test out their designs with real candy pumpkins | Make It Fly! During the testing and improve part of the design process, students in Ms. Thompson's 4th grade class test out their pumpkin launcher after making changes. | Show and Tell Each design team shared their device and modeled how it worked. They tested for both distance and accuracy. So much fun! |

Poetry Workshop with Author Liz Scanlon
Think Like Poets Author, poet, and former Zilker parent Liz Scanlon shared a fantastic poetry workshop with 5th graders to kick off their poetry unit. | Feelings Using a Emily Dickinson poem as a guide, classes rewrote the poem together using the feelings "fear", "anger" and "confusion". | Sharing Talents 5th graders left the poetry workshop feeling inspired and motivated! |

Get Cozy! Two 3rd graders find a cozy spot in the library to curl up with a good book! | Snappy the Turtle Snappy the turtle visited the library for two weeks earlier in November. He was so active and greeted students as they came into the library! | 32 Donated Books! Thanks to the educational crowdsourcing site DonorsChoose.org, the Zilker Library has 32 new STEM (and STEAM) picture books. Hooray! |

Announcing...2017 Scholastic Book Fair Theme!
So, to kick off the book fair excitement in 2017, there will be a display in the library hallway celebrating two things Zilker loves...READING and GETTING OUTSIDE! Send Mrs. Sharp a picture of you or your family enjoying a good book outdoors between now and January 6th to be entered to win a $25 gift certificate to the book fair!
