Notes and Reminders
Website Update and Feedback
Rye Neck Schools launched a new website in 2021 through Blackboard. In 2022, Blackboard was acquired by Finalsite, which will no longer support our website's template as of 2025. In the coming months, we will choose a new Finalsite template for a summer 2024 launch. Additionally, Rye Neck is in the process of updating its current app to include more student-specific information, such as your child's schedule, grades, and important documentation.
Mary Lanza and the Technology Planning Advisory Team created the 2023 Rye Neck Website Survey to gather feedback from the community that will guide decisions about our new website. The 2023 Rye Neck Website Survey is offered in three languages (English, Japanese, and Spanish); and it includes questions about our current website, the Rye Neck App, and our social media presence. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey by December 12, 2023.
Workshops for parents and caregivers from the RNUFSD and ESS:
This year, our district has partnered with Effective School Solutions to enhance our culturally inclusive mental wellness and behavioral support programs that improve and strengthen outcomes for students. In the coming weeks and months, we will be hosting in-person and virtual workshops of high interest to parents. Please watch for future dates and descriptions in mailings and on our district website.
A Note form the School Nurse~🤧
It's cold and flu season! According to the NYS Health Services website, parents should follow these guidelines when determining when their children should not be in school.
Persistent fever greater than 100° degrees orally, including a fever that requires administration of medication such as Tylenol or Motrin
Vomiting or diarrhea
Significant cough that makes a child feel uncomfortable or disrupts class
Sore throat that is severe, accompanied by fever or feeling ill
Red, teary, itchy eyes that distract child from learning
Discolored nasal discharge, accompanied by facial pain or headache
Ear pain or drainage from the ear
Headache, especially with fever
Any condition you think may be serious or contagious to others
Children should be fever free (without the use of fever reducing medicine), symptom free and feeling well for at least 24 hours before returning to school after illness. To report an absence/illness, please email: dwattendance@ryeneck.org the morning of the absence. A doctor’s note will be requested for any student who has been absent for 5 consecutive days, upon return to school.
In addition, a few classrooms have had students with incidents of head lice. Keep in mind, while troublesome, head lice are not dangerous and do not transmit disease. When a student is found to have lice in their hair, the parent/guardian is notified and the child is sent home to be treated.
We notify families in this classroom by a letter sent home.
A few things to consider:
All household members and close contacts should be checked and those with evidence of an active infestation should also be treated at the same time.
Family bed linens and recently used clothing such as hats, scarves, towels & bedding should be washed and dried using the hot water (130°F) and hot air cycles. Personal items such as combs, brushes and hair clips should also be washed in hot water for 5-10 minutes. Items that can not be laundered can be dry cleaned or placed in a sealed plastic bag for 2 weeks.
Vacuuming furniture and floors can remove an affected person's hairs that might have viable nits attached. However, the risk of getting infested by a louse that has fallen onto a rug or carpet or furniture is very low. Head lice survive less than 1–2 days off the scalp.
Retreatment is usually recommended 7-10 days after the initial treatment. Parents are encouraged to continue checking their child's hair regularly for signs of reinfestation in the weeks following treatment.
Spotlight on Learning
Take a walk and check out some hallway displays!
Students selected a piece of current work that they are proud of.
You can interact with this display! Lift up the flap to check if you figured out the correct time.
Family Trees are lining the hallways outside first grade classrooms.
Students learned facts about the Macy's Parade balloons...and then created their own design.
Dr. Lutinski visited Daniel Warren to share his Thanksgiving wishes while bringing smiles to staff and students.
