Update from Principal Boyd
December 2, 2022
From Principal Boyd
EJ Families,
I can't believe that is is December already. The holiday countdown is on... two more weeks!
Thanksgiving Luncheon Recap
Our Loved Ones Luncheon was a huge success! It was great to see so many of our families fellowshipping for such a wonderful occasion. My youngest daughter was able to come home for the holiday. I'm most thankful for my two girls pictured below.
Julia Bernath
One of our board members, Julia Bernath, is retiring. At her last Community Meeting, Centennial cluster principals presented her a gift for the many years of service given to Fulton County. I am grateful for having the opportunity to serve in one of Ms. Bernath's schools. We wish her the absolute best in the future.
Holiday Giving Program
The Esther Jackson Community Foundation’s 3rd Annual Holiday Giving Program is now open. You can buy gifts for our families via registries on Amazon here and Walmart here. Registries are open until December 11. (In the Amazon registry, the names under ‘Shop for’ or tagged gifts are the Foundation members coordinating wrapping and delivery of those items. It doesn’t impact your purchase.)
Thank you so much for those of you who have purchased a gift to help our EJ scholars have a wonderful Christmas. A special thank you to our EJ Foundation for continuing to support our families.

As we countdown to our winter break, we are planning holiday parties for grade levels and collecting donations for teacher/staff gifts. Attached is a flier that includes information about how you can donate. A hard copy of this document will be sent home with students on Monday.

Jaguar Spotlight
This week I am highlighting staff members:
Ms. Kimberly Mirsky - Ms. Mirsky has done a phenomenal job with our TAG Department at EJ. She has worked tirelessly to ensure that we are identifying students to be tested for our Gifted Program and has almost doubled our numbers in the past two years! I love that Ms. Mirsky provides critical thinking activities to teachers so that every student at EJ gets the opportunity to engage in higher level thinking and learning.
Thank you, Ms. Mirsky, for your dedication to our scholars!
Erin Shurbutt - Ms.Shurbutt is one of a kind! She is an AMAZING educator and excels in her position as math coach at EJ! Ms. Shurbutt not only supports teachers with implementing math curriculum, she also supports students and serves as a member of the admin team. Ms. Shurbutt is passionate about math and learning and believes that every student is capable of success.
I am fortunate that I get to work with Ms. Shurbutt and EJ is lucky to have her!
Teacher and Staff Recognition
The role of an educator is extremely rewarding and sometimes tough. it is so important that we always show appreciation to our EJ staff.
Ms. Feliciano - Second Grade
My son has been at EJ for 2 years now and Ms. Feliciano has been such a wonderful influence on him. We had a very good teacher conference and discussed areas where he can improve. Throughout the year she has been in communication with us and has been a pleasure to talk to. My boy can be a handful and I appreciate her stern teaching style. My son has really flourished at EJ and we are very thankful. He is doing much better here, than in Texas. Last year he was in Mrs. Kiess's class and we were not sure if he had some learning disability or ADHD. Your staff helped us get him tested and provided feedback and support through that process. We are grateful for the attention to both student and parent. Even prior to enrollment, we discussed potential issues and our concerns with your placement team and they got him just where he needed to be. r.
Ms. Smith - PreK
My daughter comes home every day and tells us how much she is learning from/with Ms. Smith, Due to COVID she never went to daycare or pre-school and we were not sure how she would fall into the system. Ms. Smith has been a fantastic teacher and we are so happy that she is flourishing. The class learned about October and she was singing the October song over and over. She also wrote October on our ottoman in sharpie, but she did spell it correctly.
Ms. Boyd and EJ Staff
We love the EJ staff and learning experience that our children are receiving. We are so proud of our kids progress and appreciative of the efforts of teachers and staff at EJ. Thank you so much for building an attentive and caring team of educators.
