I have started a blog to document what we do in class. Please visit my website and see what we are posting. I hope to post student projects, labs, recipes, events, etc. throughout the year. You can sign up on the right hand side to subscribe by email. This will allow you to get emails every time we post something instead of you having to check the website to see if we have added anything.
Don't Cross Me Lab
Students learned the importance of not cross contaminating. Side A was a cutting board washed after having a hamburger patty placed on it and then a piece of cheese placed where the patty was. Side B is the hamburger patty on an unwashed board and then cheese placed on it.
Yeast Microscope Lab
Since we did cinnamon rolls and are currently doing pizza, we looked at the rate of reaction of yeast to various percentages of sucrose solutions.
This super saturation lab shows how sugar can be forced into solution to then be able to precipitate out in large crystal formations. Our left over syrup was turned into pancake syrup or we added corn syrup as an interfering agent to make lollipops with small crystals.
