Room 106 News
Week of March 21-25
Welcome back!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break! This is the last week of the third nine weeks! I can't believe how fast the year is flying by. We do have a holiday this Friday, March 25th. Next week, the campus will be closed to all visitors on Tuesday, March 29th, and Wednesday, March 30th. This is due to the STAAR testing in fourth and fifth grade.
Language Arts, Writing and Social Studies
The students continue to learn about important text features this week. They will spend time looking for text features in books, and learn how these features can help them when reading nonfiction text. In writing, the students are beginning to write their questions in their research folders and then they will begin to research and find the answers to their questions. This project will keep us busy for several weeks. We are also finishing our flip books of important Texas symbols. There just wasn't enough time to finish before Spring break, due to our shortened days.
Math and Science
We will begin a geometry unit in math this week. The students will begin by learning about the properties of 2 dimensional shapes. They will come to understand that there are many different kinds of triangles and quadrilaterals, and that the figures retain their shape and size even when they are slid, turned, or flipped. In Science, students will learn about magnets and force of motion as they rotate through hands-on science stations throughout the week.
