MEET YASMIN CHAPMAN

Current title/school? Spanish I teacher at Belton Middle School

What inspires you to work in Belton ISD? Seeing all the innovation and what our teachers do for kids. I have three kids in Belton ISD schools (one is a senior) and would not want it any other way!

Tell us a fun fact about yourself. I graduated from Ellison High School when I was 16 years old.

What was a pivotal moment in your career? Last year I transitioned to the ESL coordinator position for Belton High. It allowed me to step ito a more administrative role and collaborate more with teachers. I missed sharing my culture, though, so I returned to teach Spanish without hesitation.

Academics? Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Phoneix

Theatre Tech Olympics

Our BMS Theatre Tech Team competed against the other three Middle Schools at Belton High school this last Saturday and WON! We are so proud of all of these students and can't wait to see this program grow!

Parent and Student Surveys - Your Input Matters to Us!

If you haven't done so already, please take a couple minutes of your time to complete our parent survey.

On Monday during STRIPES, students will be taking a similar survey. BMS staff will be providing input through a survey as well.

We recently informed you of some action steps we have taken in response to a larger number of students failing to follow campus expectations than expected. These strategies are going well so far. Input from all stakeholders will help inform us as we plan additional action steps as part of our campus reset. We will keep you updated!

10 - 10 Rule

Some of you have asked us to provide more information on our 10-10 Rule. We do not allow student movement in the hallways during the first and last 10 minutes of class. This allows staff to clear the hallways before and after class transitions to ensure that students are in their assigned classrooms. Posters like the one below can be found throughout the school. We would appreciate it if you would please take a moment and review the 10 - 10 Rule together with your child.

TOP TIGER Award

Our PTA is going to start a TOP TIGER Award for 9 students (3 from each grade) every 9 weeks. The students will be nominated and voted on by their teachers. These students demonstrate safe, responsible, and respectful behavior as well as exhibit an eagerness to learn, encourage other classmates, and show a genuine care and concern for others. These students represent the very best of BMS and our PTA wants to recognize them in a special way.

The first group of winners will be announced the week of November 15th!

Our next Pep-Rally is Friday, November 12th!

We are looking forward to celebrating and having fun together as a BMS Family! Unfortunately, visitors will not be able to attend this pep rally due to parking/traffic flow concerns. We are exploring solutions that may allow us to have visitors at future pep rallies.
Belton MS Fight Song

Out with the OLD and in with the NEW!!!

We now have long tables, rather than round ones, in the cafeteria to provide a more structured, less chaotic environment for students.

Impact Aid Forms

Impact Aid helps our district collect funds from the federal government for anyone military connected or a civilian who works on post.

These forms went out this week.

Please fill out the form! We need 100% participation from ALL families. Forms are DUE November 10th.

Veterans Day

BISD will be CLOSED Thursday, Nov 11th in observance on Veterans Day.

CTE Tour for 8th Grade Students

On the morning of November 18, all 8th grade students will be walking over to Belton High School with their teachers for a tour of CTE courses. The tours will be led by high school students. Career Technical Education (CTE) courses provide students with the academic and technical skills, knowledge and training necessary to succeed in future careers and to become lifelong learners. This tour will help students make decisions as to which classes they want to take in high school. We are excited about being able to offer this opportunity to all of our 8th grade students this year!

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving break will be Nov 22-26.

WATCH D.O.G.S. Coming Soon

BMS is going to be starting Watch D.O.G.S.

WATCH D.O.G.S. is one of the nation’s largest and most respected school-based, family, and community engagement, organizations in the country. Since the program’s creation in 1998, more than 6,800 schools across the country have launched a WATCH D.O.G.S. program of their own. Each school year hundreds of thousands of fathers and father-figures make a positive impact on millions of children by volunteering millions of hours in their local schools through this amazing one-of-a-kind program. Who are WatchDOGS? Fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures who volunteer to serve at least one day a year in a variety of school activities. More information coming soon!

Free & Reduced Applications

PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD — Although breakfast and lunch is free this school year, families are still encouraged to submit the Free and Reduced Price School Meal Application at https://www.nlappscloud.com. Approved applicants receive additional benefits outside of meal service such as P-EBT. Submission also helps ensure Belton ISD campuses receive funding to support students. 🍎

November SOCK Campaign

We have concluded our October campaign of shoe donations. We will be shipping off over 60 bags full of shoes. Each bag holds about 20-25 pair which equates to approximately 1500 shoes! Great work! For November, we will kick off the SOCK campaign. This is for NEW socks only. November SOCK Campaign - Tiffany Sommerfeld
