Principal's Letter
Dear Lake Windward Families,
I hope you had a fun, relaxing summer! It went by quickly for my family and me! We did enjoy some downtime together and some later wake ups while on vacation! :)
It was so wonderful to get to see our students back at LWE today! I am super proud of how our students came in this morning and acclimated so nicely to their new classrooms. As I peeked in classrooms, I could see their eyes smiling.
Thank you for your patience this week as students get familiar with our arrival and dismissal routines. It would be super helpful if you could help your child learn his/her carpool or bus number/animal. The amount of time it takes for us to complete arrival and dismissal should lessen considerably as the weeks go on.
In the spring, we worked with an education consultant to rewrite our school's mission and vision statements. The consultant met with focus groups of students, staff and parents to get input. A writing team then met with the consultant to find similarities and patterns in our stakeholder focus group feedback. After reviewing all feedback and participating in multiple protocols to review the data, the team arrived at a new mission and vision statement which reflected the input of stakeholders. Check them out below! (Our school's mantra "Learn, Grow, Lead & Show" will remain the same.)
I look forward to a great year of learning and growing! Thank you for your continued support. Please be sure to see all the information included below in this week's newsletter.
Warm regards,
Julie Morris

Updated Attendance Policy
For students in Fulton County Schools (FCS) to learn and achieve to their fullest potential, it is critical they attend school and are engaged in the learning process. Student absences, whether excused or unexcused, impact a child’s ability to succeed in school.
FCS has implemented a new attendance notification process. Parents/guardians will be notified more often on absences, regardless of whether a student is excused or unexcused. Families will be notified of student absences via daily robocalls. Students who accumulate multiple absences will receive letters to notify them of missed learning time, and staff will follow up with supportive strategies for families and students.
Elementary School students’ attendance is taken within the first hour of the instructional day to record who is physically present. Students must be present for half of the instructional day to be marked present for the day. Middle and High School students’ attendance is taken each period. Students must be present for 50% or more of the day to be marked present.
We understand that students get sick, have family emergencies, and things do come up. If a parent needs to excuse a student from attendance, notify the child’s school as soon as possible. The following must be included in a written note or email sent to Lake Windward ES:
Student Name
Student FCS ID Number (lunch number)
Parent/Guardian Name
Parent/Guardian Email & Phone Number
Reason for Excuse
Parents/guardians can monitor their child’s attendance using Infinite Campus. More detailed information about our attendance policy can be found here. We look forward to seeing your student in school every day to ensure a successful school year.
