News from Lions Park School
Letter from the Principal
Dear Lions Park Families,
Lions Park students and staff have been focusing on joy and "sprinkling kindness like confetti" during January. Our student council has made the month joyful by encouraging students to wear pajamas every Friday and allowing students to write their own joyful messages to be posted on the walls of the school. We have further added to the joy by having every student pass out at least one kindness note to a child or adult in the school. It has been fun to see so many thoughtful notes being shared around our school.
February 14th will be an action packed half day full of love and excitement at Lions Park. We will be having a Read Around where students will select a book with a message of kindness or friendship. Each book will be read in a different location in our school by a Lions Park staff member. Therefore, students will have the opportunity to get to know students in other classes or grades and perhaps spend time with a staff member they do not see often. That day students will also be making blankets for Knots of Love. Students will make fleece blankets to be given to children at Lutheran General Hospital. This cause is near and dear to our hearts because it was started by Lions Park student Lauren Graver and continues in her memory since her death in December 2018. Some classes may begin making their blankets earlier in the week. PTO classroom Valentine's Day parties will be a nice finish to the morning. These parties are for the students and the four PTO parents who plan and lead the party.
We ask for your continued cooperation in maintaining a safe and orderly drop off and pick up from school. Please keep in mind that stopping to drop off children anywhere other than at the curb is an unsafe practice and causes traffic to get backed up. This can then cause other drivers to become frustrated and drive erratically. Our students learn from the behaviors that are modeled by the adults around them. It is important that safety, respect and responsibility are what our students see, if those are the behaviors we wish the children to display.
