RMS Weekly Event Calendar

What's going on this week?
It's the Little Things!
Last week we had the opportunity to help the Lumberton, Texas school district as they try to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. This is a great opportunity to teacher our students about caring, supporting, and help those who are in need. The most important thing I believe a student can learn is that giving does not come from the pocketbook....but from the heart. It is only through the heart that a person can truly give of himself in the support of others.
After all, the greatest gifts come in small packages. Gifts come in all shapes and sizes. Take a look at the picture above. A few weeks ago, a student in Ms. Andrews' class brought her a gift. It was not the normal gift that one would think of getting, but it was a special gift that a student believed Ms. Andrews would enjoy, one that she would appreciate. Perhaps the student knew that Ms. Andrews liked peppers. Perhaps the student thought Ms. Andrews might like to try something new in her diet. My guess is that the student wanted to do something nice for Ms. Andrews. He wanted to do something for her that would make her feel good, something that would make her smile or make her laugh. It wasn't a big gift or an expensive gift. It may have been all the student could find to bring to her. However, as you can see from the picture above, it did make her smile and it was important enough to her to show others.
I hope we never forget the power of giving...even if it is only a smile, a pat on the back, or a hug. It's not the big things that students remember about their teachers, but rather, it's the little things. It is the way we made them feel or the help we provided when they needed it the most. When we give to others, not because they have earned it, but because it comes from the heart, we have received an inner joy that can't really be described.
Thank you for teaching our students the importance of giving and for giving so much of yourself to our students each day!
