Christopher Columbus & His Sacrafices!

Today we are here with a famous resident who was affected by colonization, the one and only, Christopher Columbus! For those of you that don’t know, Mr. Columbus is an Italian navigator, from Genoa. One of our first questions we asked him, was “Why most school children, are familiar and your phrase, ‘In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue.’” He then explained, “I knew the Earth was a sphere.” This then led him to attempt a voyage, setting out west Columbus was determined to arrive in Western Asia, having not a clue of how long or extreme this would be. I was then tempted to ask “Without Sain’s help do you think that you could of gone along with your voyage?” It to us was a very serious question, but he took it as more of a joke. He then chuckled and stated, “Of course not, without them I wouldn’t of had the money to go on the voyages with these ships, Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria.” Portugal refused to sponsor him on this journey, so Columbus then turned to Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain. Spain was hoping this voyage would bring back the wealth to their country. “How long was it until you finally found land, and when you finally did, where was it?” Columbus then explained, “Well, I was on the sea for a lot of weeks, with no land in sight. Finally, I spotted land, and I believed I was the Indies, and I began calling everyone Indians.” Well, that is all the time we have for today. Tune in next week for the rest of the story!
