HR August/September Newsletter
Although it seems as if we just left for summer we are excited about the new school year and are looking forward to working with your students and you this year. Our custodial staff, office staff and teachers have been working very hard to get ready for the new school year.
Welcome to our new students and families and welcome back to our returning students and their families. I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing summer. The Hickory Ridge Staff has been working hard to make sure everything is ready for our students to return to school. The classrooms, buildings and grounds look great! We hope to see everyone on Monday August 16th from 6:00 - 7:30 at our Meet the Teacher Night. Doors will open promptly at 6:00.
We have been notified that student agenda planners for students in Grades 1 - 5 should arrive later this month. Please see the Student Handbook for important information including arrival/dismissal times. To access the online version to view school procedures, click below:
We will be putting together Classroom Directories for all parents who are interested. Information regarding Classroom Directories will be sent on Wednesday, September 1. Forms must be completed by Friday, September 10 to be included in classroom directories.
We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday!
Hickory Ridge Elementary School…Dedicated to Making a Difference for Every Student!!!
Ms. Kovacevic (KG - 5 Academic Specialist)
Mrs. Zeman (School Psychologist)
Mrs. Petitto (Cafe)
Mrs. Felegy (Monitor)
And a special welcome BACK to Mr. J, who will be rejoining our KG Team!
The car line must wait on Hickory Ridge Drive and wait to make a left hand turn onto the drive until directed by a staff member on duty, per the BPD. Students ARE NOT to be dropped off in the Visitor Parking Lot nor is the Visitor Parking Lot to be used as a turnaround or exit area during arrival and dismissal. Please watch and follow the car in front of you and be patient as children are exiting their cars.
Two car lengths from the street should be free and clear of cars at all times so that buses can pull in the school driveway.
Please wait until a staff member supervising dismissal signals you to pull around the circle. This will be done after all buses have been loaded and dismissed.
The first car on the circle should pull up as far as the driveway to the Staff Parking Lot. This will allow six cars to load, on the curb side of the circle, at one time. Please pull up as close to the car in front of you as possible.
Students are not permitted to load beyond the end of the sidewalk on the circle. They should wait until you are one of the six cars on the curb side of the circle.
Cars that have loaded their students should pull out in a single line -- please do not pull out of the line-up.
NEVER leave your vehicle unattended in the driveway or circle during arrival (8:30- 9:00 a.m.) and dismissal times (3:15-3:45 p.m.).
All car drivers should be aware of buses entering the school driveway and yield or move in order to allow buses to come in. All buses MUST enter and exit before car riders are dismissed.
When picking up your child, please be prepared to always show a state issued picture ID. Your child will not be released to anyone who is not listed as an emergency contact on the Student Information Form (SIF).
Bus students and walkers will be dismissed first, followed by car riders. Pickup for car riders are the same as drop off.
Please be respectful of our neighborhood community and do not block their driveways.
Again, thank you! We greatly appreciate your cooperation and patience to help make our arrival and dismissal procedures safe and efficient for our students and for you. IF you are dropping off or picking up your student(s), we understand that your time is valuable and that you want to pick up your child as quickly as possible. Following the steps above will help us to be efficient. Also, displaying your student's last name in the front windshield will assist us in getting your student to the correct pick up spot (number). If you would like the office to make a name card for you, contact Mrs. Hovanec (School Secretary) email@example.com.
As you know our car rider line is extremely lengthy, please consider having your student(s) ride the bus to and from school, car pooling or parking off school grounds and walking to school to meet your student(s). Finally, please be respectful and considerate of each other and our staff as our first concern must be the safety of all our students.
Parents, please consider joining our PTG to become more involved in our school events. Our PTG is very involved in our building and very supportive of our students, staff and school community. I personally want to thank our PTG for funding the following for our students, staff and school this year: Happy Numbers, individual white boards, classroom materials and paper rolls for bulletin boards and special projects.
We appreciate all your support and feel extremely grateful to work alongside such a supporting group!!!
For additional information, go to the Hickory Ridge website and click on the PTG tab. You can follow our PTG on Facebook and Twitter. Our PTG will be sending out more information to you soon.
I hope you will consider supporting their first event on September 7 (Chipotle Night) from 4:00 - 8:00.

Food Service Information
Brunswick City Schools will participate in the nationwide program offering breakfast and lunch free of charge to all students every day for as long as funding for the program is available. Therefore, applications for free and reduced-price meals for students unable to pay the full price of meals served under the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program will not be required.
Please complete and return the Household Information Survey application if you wish to maintain other benefits granted through free and reduced meal benefits such as P-EBT benefits and the waiving of school fees.
The Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines will be used to determine eligibility. Children from families whose annual income is at or below the Federal Guidelines are eligible for free and reduced meal benefits.
Household Information Survey applications are available under the forms section of the website (click here) and at the main office in each school. To apply for free and reduced benefits, households should fill out the application and return it to the school. A complete form is required. Households that currently receive Special Nutrition Assistance Program Benefits (SNAP, formally known as food stamps) or Ohio Works First (OWF) funds for a child must provide the child’s name and the SNAP or OWF case number and signature of an adult household member on the application. Households that do not receive SNAP or OWF funds must:
provide the names of all household members
provide the last four digits of the Social Security Number of the adult signing the application or state “none” if the adult does not have a Social Security number
provide the amount and source of income received by each household member (state the monthly income)
an adult household member must sign the application
If any of this information is missing, the school cannot process the application.
Emergency Student Pick Up
If someone other than a person(s) listed as an emergency contact will pick your child up from school, please remember that a phone call and completed form will be required. Please follow these simple steps:
Call the school to request that a person not listed as an emergency contact needs to pick up your child. The building secretary will verify the number you are calling from as a number listed in our student system.
A link (to a form) will be sent via email to the email listed for the legal guardian. Once the legal guardian completes the form, the child may be picked up by the person indicated on the form.
The building staff will verify the identity of the person picking up the child; be sure the person picking up the child brings a driver’s license or a state ID.
Accurate Bus Route Information will be available for Kindergarten through Grade 12 students when face-to-face instruction begins. In addition, unlike last year, busing will be available for high school students during the 2021-2022 school year.
You can find your students’ busing information on the transportation department web page: www.bcsoh.org/transportation. Then, click on the “My Stop APP” link. Your username and password are set to your home phone number unless you previously changed your password.
Please remember that at the start of the school year, the transportation department is extremely busy. Therefore, if you submit an address change or child care transportation request, please be aware that it may take a couple of days to handle your request.
“My Stop” Real-Time Bus Location: Parents/Guardians can view their students' real-time bus location through Versatrans.
If you have never logged into Versatrans before, please use the student’s primary phone number used on the Student Information Form (SIF) as the username and password. Once a parent/guardian has logged in, they must change their password. To change the password:
Click on the “OPTIONS” tab
