A Note from the Director

First, big thanks to all of our future Jaguar Band members for coming out to the Pink Out game with us! We are really looking forward to you all joining our award-winning program!

For our current Jaguar Band families...Welcome to the whirlwind week!!

This is going to be the busiest week yet for our Jaguar Band. Let’s review what is headed our way!

1. Monday, we have a regular rehearsal 5 - 8 p.m.

2. Tuesday is UIL Region Marching Contest at Tony Burger Center in Austin. Please see the schedule that was emailed out Friday.

3. Wednesday is the Hays CISD Band Festival at Shelton Stadium. This is a community give-back event and admission is free. All three Hays CISD High School Marching Bands will be performing. Additionally, the 7th & 8th grade students from all six of the Hays CISD will be performing.

4. Thursday is a regular after-school rehearsal, 5 - 7 p.m.

5. Friday is an away football game in Seguin! We will have the 7 a.m. rehearsal with the Rosettes. Considering UIL Area Marching Contest is the next morning, the band will leave the Seguin game after halftime.

6. Saturday is UIL Area Marching Contest! This contest will be held at PField in the Pflugerville ISD. This is also a prelims/finals contest with the top bands advancing on to the UIL State Championships.

This week kicks off the first full week of our Fall Fundraiser! Parents, I encourage you to help push the links to our fundraiser out to family and friends. Let’s make this an incredible fundraiser for our band program!

As we wrap up this newsletter, it is important that we acknowledge and thank the incredible volunteers that have worked so hard this season. From Uniforms, to Props, to Food, to Bus Chaperones and to every little event that I may have missed where we had our wonderful parents and families volunteer! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your efforts do not go unnoticed!

Let’s make it a great week and as always: It’s a Great Day to be a Jaguar!

VOLUNTEER WITH PIT CREW AT BAND FESTIVAL ON WEDNESDAY!

UIL Gate Entry Fees

The UIL Host recently notified participants that tickets for UIL will be CASH ONLY. They also included a comment that if you cannot pay cash, they can accept checks made out to UIL Music Region 18. Tickets are still $5 for 6th grade and up. 5th grade and younger are free as has been posted on our website.

Uniform Washing for UIL

Next week we have a busy week. The band has UIL on Tuesday, Hays Marching Festival on Wednesday, a football game on Friday and UIL Area on Saturday. We will need to wash all the show tops and bibbers on Thursday in order to be ready for UIL on Saturday. We are planning an all-day washing session at the school on Thursday. We need as many volunteers as possible to help get all the uniforms done.

Trunk-or-Treat

On Thursday, October 28th the band boosters would like to provide all band and guard students with a fun trunk or treat experience. They have been working really hard, and we would like to celebrate their work. We are asking you to decorate your trunk and bring candy for the students to visit after practice on that Thursday. Practice ends at 7 p.m. so we will start setting up around 6:00 in a designated portion of the parking lot. Please decorate your car and bring lots of candy to the event. If you cannot decorate your car you can also sign up to drop off candy for us to give away. If you have any questions please contact Carolyn Meredith at celebrations@johnsonbands.com.

IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT UNIFORMS!

Uniform replacement policy:

Please know that if your student forgets one of the items listed below, they will need to purchase a replacement as we cannot "lend" these out because we cannot resell used items. Furthermore, there are approximately 200 members in the marching band, and handing these items out without recouping cost is way too costly and unsustainable.

We accept cash or credit card. If students are unable to pay on that day, your account will be billed. Please know that any debt left outstanding will result in a hold with the school that could prevent your student from such things as purchasing prom tickets to qualifying for exemptions from finals.

Lastly, for Band and Guard students, please put your student's name on ALL UNIFORM PARTS. We recommend using paint pens/sharpies. If they are labeled, we can get those items back to your student - if they are not labeled, we cannot get those items back to them and it may result in you paying unnecessarily for replacements.

Prices of replacement items:

Polo $24

khaki shorts $20

water jug $8

wristband $3

black socks $2

black gloves $3 (gloves will be passed out this week)

With that said, if you have old summer uniform items that your student no longer uses and that are in good shape, please send those to the band hall. The uniform crew will be creating a "Uniform Closet" from which will first be utilized to assist any families in need and, if sizes are available, students can check out to borrow. Please know that if the item is not returned within 5 school days, your account will be charged the appropriate amount and outstanding debts will result in holds for your student as was explained above.

Sincerely,

Jaguar Marching Band Uniform Crew
