Wrapping up January Lights

Let's keep reading to celebrate Dr. Seuss

It's still wintertime!

Turning the page to February

Today marked the final day of January for the school year. We've been pretty fortunate with the weather, but February always seems to bring either a deep freeze or a blanket of snow. Thanks to you, the students have been prepared for our changing weather. I just wanted to remind you that we are outside for recess when the temperature is zero degrees or above, with the windchill too. We're a hardy bunch here in Merton and yes, I do go outside with the students.

Having a great time with friends?

Trivia Night is Friday, March 4th

Our annual Trivia Night is set for Friday, March 4th as Ironwood Golf Course. All funds raised are going toward the purchase of new playground equipment for the Intermediate School. Here is a link to sign up to attend. We hope that you can attend and appreciate your continued support of Merton Schools!

Our students in art

It is always fun to walk into our main entrance and take a look at the art work posted by Mrs. Thelan. I thank her for the display and I am proud of our kids' samples. Enjoy the view.

My How To Book

Here is one of our 5k authors who recently completed a How To book on building a snowman. Her teacher was so excited that she suggested I learn more about her book. I asked her how do you get the third snowball up on the first two. She said to me, " I ask my daddy to do it." Thanks for enjoying this story.

Lunchtime bookclub

Once a week, Mrs. Shannon has first grade children join her by listening to a continuing story while they eat lunch (3rd photo). They meet in the large group area near first grade where Mrs. Shannon uses her readers' workshop strategies to engage the children. Today, Mrs. Shannon was in a classroom helping us out as a guest teacher. So, with her help in finding the book, I read to the kids. What fun we had!

Lots of wonderful events are coming in February. Hope you will take advantage of them!
