Honor and Excellence Nominations
Honor and Excellence are two of the terms that appear on the Hamilton Southeastern Crest. One might attribute these qualities to our students, and rightly so, but the same terms can also describe our staff.
We honor representatives of our outstanding teachers at the end of each year through the Teacher of the Year program. We would also like to recognize representatives from our SUPPORT STAFF who demonstrate excellence in their work, particularly in a school year like no other!
We are looking for support staff employees who go beyond the normal expectations of their job description resulting in outstanding support of Hamilton Southeastern students and the Hamilton Southeastern Community.
Nominees must be Hamilton Southeastern employees or contracted employees working in our buildings. They could be from any support staff category, including: custodial services, transportation, food service, technology, grounds, secretarial, instructional assistants, maintenance, accounting, treasurers, school resource officers, nurses, therapists, probation officers, etc.
Qualifications to be nominated would include anything beyond the normal expectations of the person’s job. It could be a “one-time” act or a series of acts.
Nominations may be received from any person from the Hamilton Southeastern Community, including: professional staff, support staff, parents, students, community members, etc.
Feel free to nominate past recipients of the award. Past award winners are eligible to be chosen again.
If you would like to nominate someone for this award, please complete the form by March 23.
If you have any questions, please contact Sharon Moore at smoore@hse.k12.in.us.
Be sure to get your nomination in early - those received after March 23 will not be considered.
Thanks for your help in honoring the excellent work of our support staff!

3rd Grade Families: IREAD-3 March 8 - March 19
It is spring and that means it is time to begin administering Indiana State Testing.
Our third-grade students will be participating in the iRead assessment March 1st-March 19th.
- The purpose of the IREAD-3 assessment is to measure foundational reading skills acquired through grade 3.
- IREAD-3 is an online, multiple-choice, timed, summative assessment that helps ensure students have achieved the reading skills necessary for grade 4.
- IREAD-3 provides the reading indicator required by Indiana Code 20-32-8.5 and impacts the promotion of current grade 3 students to grade 4 via the State Board of Education IREAD-3 Policy.
- For more information, visit our website https://www.doe.in.gov/assessment/IREAD-3
Your child’s teacher will be reaching out to you to confirm days/times that your student will be testing here at Sand Creek Elementary.

Best Buddies Virtual Friendship Walk on April 25
Although we have paused our chapter's weekly and monthly involvement with Best Buddies this year, I am pleased to share that our Sand Creek Elementary team will still be supporting the Best Buddies Organization through their Friendship Walk! It will be held virtually on April 25, but more information may be obtained through their website.
If you would like to support this wonderful cause through a simple donation or sign up to join this Walk for Inclusion, please visit https://www.bestbuddiesfriendshipwalk.org/indianapolis/supporting/#SCE . This link will take you to our 'Sand Creek Elementary' team page, so your donations and participation will be directly through our school's involvement. Thank you for your support and consideration!

Traveling Before or after Spring Break?
- Please remember to call (317-915-4270) or email the Main Office (azjones@hse.k12.in.us) and your student's teacher with the dates your student will be missing school.
- In-person students are absent even if they participate in virtual learning while traveling. Long-term travel is an exception and families must email Mr. English to discuss a switch to virtual learning long-term.
- In-person students can use their teacher's Canvas page to keep up with missed work, but they are still absent from in-person learning.
