Broad Run High School's Newsletter May/June 2023

Principal's Message

Spartans,

Summer is upon us, and we are finalizing plans for the 23-24 school year. Please be sure if you are returning to Broad Run High School you have the right courses selected. You should be able to see your student schedule on or about August 14. Look for an email from me in early August with more information.

I would like to congratulate the class of 2023. As we celebrate you at graduation on June 1, we also thank you for your contribution to Broad Run through the years. Having school shut down halfway through your ninth-grade year was a huge challenge--one that you overcame together, and we are proud of you. Please stay in touch.

I would also like to thank the outgoing PTSO Board: Ms. Reidy, Ms. Vinay, Mr. Sharma, Ms. Miller, and Ms. Towle. Congratulations to the New Board! Please consider joining the PTSO and attending our meetings on the second Monday of each month.

Have a good summer.

World Languages Department Hosts Exchanges

French students visit Broad Run HS

Four groups of French high school students visited Broad Run HS this spring. More than 100 students from Roubaix, Soissons, Lille, and Bourg-en-Bresse, France visited BRHS on April 12, 24 and May 1.

Each French student was hosted by a BRHS student who is studying French. The French students loved experiencing a typical American high school day, including lunch in the cafeteria.

German Exchange

School will be out for summer soon! Not so much for the participants of GAPP (German American Partnership Program). They will travel to Leipzig, Germany June 15 and will stay with their hosts for fourteen days. Aside from field trips to beautiful castles and churches in Dresden, wandering through Weimar in the shoes of the famous poet Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe, and making chocolate in Berlin, students will participate in the German classroom at our partner school - Neue Nikolaischule in Leipzig.

In addition, 20 students from Neue Nikolaischule will experience the American lifestyle from 9/11 - 9/25 2023 and are looking for host families to share this experience with. They will be visiting New York, Washington, DC, the Luray Caverns and Topgolf. Students of participating host families are welcome to attend field trips with the German students and can visit "their" student in Germany, when we are returning to Leipzig in June 2024 for a two-week exchange. If you would like more information about the exchange, please email the German teacher (Anne Friedrich, Anne.Friedrich@lcps.org)

Cup of Spartan News

A Cup Of Spartan is celebrating their second year in the coffee business!

The student baristas have been busy creating new coffee drinks. Their specialty mocha's have been a huge hit, especially with students who enjoy stopping in the coffee shop. BRHS teachers and staff have been so supportive! A Cup Of Spartan greatly appreciates all the support this year, especially to the staff who donated beautiful mugs, dishes, cookie dough, baked goods and their time helping with coffee shop events.

The coffee shop held their last event on May 8. The theme was everything beach and it was a lot of fun!

Mr. David won best Hawaiian t-shirt contest. He received A Cup Of Spartan gift card and a floatie for his summer pool days.
