WMMS Tiger Times
Fostering Community. Empowering Students.
Dear WMMS Families,
This year is not starting the way we had hoped, but we are doing everything we can to make sure students are able to receive a quality education in a manner that best fits each family's needs. We have some students attending fully online and others that will be in school in person. Included in this newsletter you will find our Return to Learn plans, as well as, additional information about the start of school for both online and in-person students.
As you begin reviewing this information and preparing for the start of school, know that we have been working hard to provide safe environments and high-quality education. Inevitably we will need to update our plans throughout the year. I will send out any updates via email, textcaster, the WMMS website, and our Facebook page. If you have a new email address, please make sure to update that with the main office.
The WMMS mission statement is "Fostering Community. Empowering Students." When we say "Fostering Community" that includes you. Part of what makes a community is the ability to work together for the benefit of all. This takes patience, understanding, and a team effort. We have had many families contact us over the course of the summer to discuss unique situations. I have been so grateful for the kindness and compassion they exhibited in the process of working out plans. Working together, we can create the best of a tough situation. I am so glad you are a part of our community!
Throughout the year, if you have any questions, please let us know. If you have suggestions, please let us know. If you have frustrations, please let us know. If you have celebrations, please let us know. Together we will make this a great year!
Sincerely,
Julie Esquivel

WMMS Return to Learn: Level 2 Highlights
A/B Cohorts
The Kirksville R-III School District is set to open at Level 2. Everyone should receive a letter this week to know which cohort your child(ren) will be in. Students participating in the online academy will also receive a cohort. This will only be used if your child returns to in-person learning for the second semester. If you do not receive a letter, please give us a call.Clarification of the letters mailed:
In regards to this section:
"The Kirksville R-III school board recently voted to move the school district to Level 2 of its Covid-19 protocols. Therefore, in order to reduce class sizes and increase social distancing, students in grades 6-12 will be divided into two cohorts and half of the student body will be attending school on alternating days. For example:
Cohort A will attend Monday, Wednesday, Friday in week one and Tuesday and Thursday in week two.
Cohort B will attend Tuesday and Thursday in week one and Monday, Wednesday, Friday in week two."
This paragraph was taken from our Return to Learn protocols and was meant to be an example of how the cohorts will work. Please use the A/B calendar enclosed in the letter (and also attached in the bottom section of this newsletter) along with the stated 1st day of school for your child.
Your student is currently assigned to Cohort ____. Therefore, their first day of school will be ______________, August _____th.
I apologize for the confusion.
Temperatures
We will take temperatures as students enter the building. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 or higher will need to stay home. Please help us with this by taking your child's temperature before sending them to school each day. If you are dropping your student off, please wait until a teacher is able to take your child's temperature before driving off. If you child is riding a bus, and they have a temperature, we will contact you to pick them up.
Masks
Everyone will be required to wear masks in the middle school as we are unable to social distance in most area. Please make sure your child has a mask and it is best to have a back-up in case one becomes soiled or breaks.
Full Protocols are found here: WMMS Return to Learn Plans
All Level 1 protocols will remain in place and we will add in the Level 2 precautions. Please make sure to read through both level 1 and level 2 and help your child prepare for the changes.
