Principal's Message

Hello Hughes Community!

This weekend, we recognize and honor those in our families and communities who have served in our armed forces. Continuing with the theme of gratitude this month, we thank our Veterans for their dedication and service to our country so that our rights and freedoms may be protected. The three-day weekend will be a wonderful time to spend with families and friends but let’s not forget our day off from school is because of the honorable dedication of our service members.

Congratulations to the 70% of our students who currently have a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher, including over 500 students who have a GPA of 3.5 or higher! Having a 2.5. or higher GPA is one indicator of being High School Ready and our Owls are doing a great job! Remember that the semester grade is final so our students need to continue to do their best every day to maintain or raise their grades.

Enjoy the long weekend!

Wellness Center Trivia

Students engaged in educational trivia in the Wellness Center during lunch

Lost and Found

Please remind your student to check the Lost and Found boxes in the 1000 hallway. We have many unclaimed items including water bottles (3 boxes), lunch bags, school supplies, clothing items, and more! All unclaimed items will be donated if not picked up by Friday, Nov. 18 (prior to Thanksgiving break).

Students Leaving Early (Early Outs)

When you know you are picking up your student early, please avoid the student lunch time and PE class. We are unable to call for students once they are dismissed to lunch and cannot allow adults to walk on campus. During PE classes, there is not always an available adult to let the students in to the locker room to obtain their belongings. Additionally, you are welcome to notify the office about the early out ahead of time and we can let the PE teacher and student know to keep their items with them during that time. Thank you for your help and understanding.

PTA Meeting 11/15/22

PTA is holding their next General Membership PTA meeting on Tuesday, November 15. Our Hughes intervention counselor, Mrs. Sanchez, will be joining us to talk about bullying and how it's handled at school. The meeting starts at 6:00 pm and it will be held virtually on zoom. Link below:

Hughes Guidelines for Success

Big picture
At Hughes, we expect all our students to show RESPECT as part of our Guidelines for Success. Our students are expected to embody RESPECT both on and off campus since they are a representation of our school and community. Make us #HughesProud!

Hughes - A Green Ribbon School

We are reinstating our sorting stations in the lunch area at Hughes! As a Green Ribbon School, Hughes is a leader in sustainability and eco-friendly actions. We encourage all students to help keep our campus clean and green!

Reusable Water Bottles: We encourage all students to bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated and reduce our plastic waste.

Clean and Green: As a Green School, our students should not litter on or around campus. Please make sure that all items are thrown away and that we also pick up trash that we see when walking or sitting by it. When we ignore trash on the ground, we are saying that we are OK with trash on the ground, and that's not the Hughes way!

Walk, Bike, Carpool: To minimize the amount of CO2 we add to our environment as well as noise pollution from traffic, we encourage all our students to walk, bike, or carpool to school, when possible.

Join the Hughes PTA! Our goal is for our entire school community to be members!
