April 2022
Happy April!
This month we are blessed to celebrate Palm Sunday and Easter and remember the journey that Jesus made to the cross on our behalf. His resurrection remains one of the most beautiful events for all of mankind! What a joy to know that because of His sacrifice, we have a forever home!
I have a feeling April will fly by quickly! There will be Connection Hours, Wednesday night LIFE Groups, exploring Lake Granger, an Easter Breakfast Taco Fundraiser and preparations to host a blood drive!
I have tried to be as informative as possible in each section below. Please let me know if you have any questions! Please fill out the quick prayer request link if there is any specific way I can be in prayer for you and your family!
In Christ,
Sherlyn
Wednesday Night Spring LIFE Group
Students, do you ever feel like what you are trying to say gets lost in translation? Have you ever wondered why no matter what you do, some people just don't appreciate your efforts? Have you ever felt like you are speaking a different language all together when trying to communicate with a friend? Has someone complimented you or given you a gift and you didn't really appreciate it but wasn't sure why?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then come to Wednesday night LIFE group and find out why!
Parents, your help to cover the meals is most appreciated! You can sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040545ADAD2BA7F49-wednesday1
The dates for Spring Session are as follows: April 6, April 27, May 4, May 1, and May 18.
Lake Granger Expedition on April 10th
Join us on April 10th as we spend some time in the great outdoors at beautiful Lake Granger! We will meet at 9:30 for Connection Hour, worship together as a youth group at 10:45 and then head to the lake for a picnic lunch and some fun time! More details to come soon!
No Sunday Night Hang Time in April
NYG Easter Breakfast Taco Fundraiser
Here is info for our Easter Breakfast Taco fundraiser - hopefully, it's our final fundraiser!
We will be offering tacos for a free will donation on Easter morning in the Lobby from 8:30-10:30. We are asking each family to sign up to bring one item AND we are asking each NYG student to sign up to work a shift on Easter morning. We will be using the same format as the first taco fundraiser we did last year. Families are asked to bring one dozen hot breakfast tacos of either bacon/egg or sausage/egg, wrapped in foil and ready to go in the warmer to be served (sign up below). Tacos can be cooked in your own kitchen or purchased from a restaurant!
If you will be out of town and can't make it, please let me know - I know it's a busy time of year. I am happy to find your student a pre-event or post-event job (marketing, posters, set-up, thank you's, etc.) if your family would like to be included in the fundraiser. Sarah Jones has graciously agreed to head things up on Easter morning, as my own family will be out of town for volleyball. Parents, if you would please check in with Sarah when your family arrives and see if she needs any adult helping hands, I would truly appreciate it! I will have everything set up/laid out in the lobby before we leave on Thursday. Since we aren't cooking onsite, the cleanup should be minimal!
Here are the sign-ups:

Thank you for your continued support to make NYG a reality for our students!
April's Schedule and Search Committee Update for Director of Youth Ministry Position
The Youth Director Search Committee is hard at work! Please keep the committee and the possible candidates in your prayers as phone interviews begin after Easter. I am so excited to see who God will call to serve this wonderful Jr. and Sr. High family here at Zion! When the club volleyball and track schedules came out at the beginning of the school year, my family realized that starting in April, our schedule would be packed with out of town track/volleyball tournaments nearly every weekend. We let the Board of Parish Ed and church leadership know as soon as possible, and the goal was to have the new full-time, permanent Director in place before April 1. God's timing isn't always the same as ours, but we know that His timing is ALWAYS best! I trust that we will make it through April together as I am still here and the schedule is still crazy!
All that to say that I will be out of town most weekends in April and two Wednesdays are track meet days. The Board of Parish Ed, along with church leadership, have known for months this would be the case and are supportive of what April will look like. I have been working diligently to have Sunday mornings covered so that the students won't even know I'm gone. We will not meet on Wednesday April 13th or 20th for LIFE group. I truly appreciate your patience and grace through the month of April!
Class of 2022 Graduate Recognition
On May 15th, we will be recognizing Zion's Class of 2022 Graduates! Parents of Graduates, be looking for an email soon with more details. We are excited to highlight the class of 2022 within our Zion family!
Sr. High Sponsored Blood Drive on May 15th
On May 15th, Sr. High Ministry will be teaming up with We are Blood to host a blood drive on our campus. We are hosting this blood drive in honor of Keith Frank (Zion member, husband to Jane, and father to Avery and Brandon) who is fighting Acute Myeloid Leukemia. We will be organizing the sign up list for church members to donate and will also be in charge of the hospitality area for people to have refreshments post-donation. Please keep the Frank family in your prayers and watch for more details soon!
