Tiger Update

Hello Tigers! Welcome to the Tiger Update for the week of August 12th! This week has been an amazing one for our Tigers. I’ve seen lots of classes doing activities to get to know one another, and we’ve been focusing on learning our school routines in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, and more.

It’s been exciting to be in classrooms and see students engaged in learning tasks! Reading and writing workshops have kicked off in our classrooms. I’ve seen students reading independently or in small groups. I’ve also seen students working on writing tasks – journals, short stories, and more! It’s so much fun to watch how our students will grow over the course of the year!

I do have an important reminder for all the parents out there! We are finding that some of you have not yet filled out your back-to-school forms in Skyward. For some kids, that means they have not yet been issued an iPad because there is no rental agreement on file. For others, it means that our nurse cannot treat your child because you have not filled out the Community health consent to treat form. And for a few of you, it means we do not have up-to-date contact information because an email address or phone number has changed over the summer. Please take a few moments to fill out your back-to-school forms!

Next, there is something important for me to share with you. On Tuesday, August 23rd at 5:30, the HSE School Board is holding a Board Work Session in the Boardroom at the HSE Central Offices. The only agenda item for that meeting is a continuation of the discussion of the future of Fishers Elementary School. If you are able, I encourage you to attend.

I also wanted to remind you of the upcoming Back to School BBQ put on by the Fishers Elementary PTO.

There are going to be lots of fun activities for the family, including Tattoo Airbrush artists, a Color Run, an Outdoor Movie, Pizza, Kona Ice, and many more fun activities to enjoy. Hopefully you can join us for this fun annual event that allows the entire FES community to connect!

As always, thank you for taking the time to join me today! Have a great weekend! Be sure to ask your Tiger about the best part of their week, and do not forget, it is a great day to be a Tiger!

Speech and Hearing Screening

Welcome back FES families! Many students will be participating in speech and hearing screenings during the first two weeks of school.

Speech screenings will be completed for Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students and you will be contacted if your child would benefit from speech therapy services in the school setting. If you are not contacted, you can assume your child passed his/her speech screenings for their developmental age level.

Hearing screenings will be completed for Kindergarten, 1st, 4th, and any new students who move to the HSE school district. Students will receive a slip of paper to send home to families if they passed. If they fail the screening, the student will be re-screened in 2-3 weeks and a referral will be sent home at that time if hearing continues to be a concern.

Feel free to contact me at atschuor@hse.k12.in.us if you have any questions about your child’s speech or hearing abilities.
