Grant Gazette
October 2021
Dear Families,
Dear Families:
October always means two things to me---great sports (NFL football, MLB playoffs, college football, high school sports) and Parent/Teacher Conferences. Conferences will be held October 18, 19, and 21st here at school.
On October 1st, you should have received a note from school, asking you to choose your preferred date and time of your conference. You could also choose an in-person conference or a Zoom conference. Please fill out and return that paper before October 7! On that date, we will do our best to schedule your conferences on the days and times you request. We cannot give you your preferred times if we don't know what they are!
Another thing we will start in October is our after school Achievement Center. Our AC will be open on Tuesdays from 3:15-4:00pm and Wednesdays from 2:00-3:00pm. During these times, students can work on classwork or have more practice time to help master concepts that they're learning throughout the day. Please contact your child's teacher for more information about getting your child involved with our Achievement Center.
Have an outstanding October!
Mr. Berryman
Join SchoolStore.com!
Last month, we kicked off the program with fun assembly and asked the kids to bring home and envelope full of information and to send emails to family, friends, and co-workers that explained the program. Students got a prize for just sending those emails out!
Now, these friends and families are purchasing items from SchoolStore.com. Grant School has earned $572.03 of profit in less than one month! In addition, teachers have received 101 gift cards worth a total of $3,390 to be used at the school store. Thank you so much for your purchases and donations so far.
We will continue using the School Store all year. If the beginning of the school year was just too hectic and you and your child would like to participate, just have your child talk to Mr. Berryman in the office and he will send your student home with an envelope that explains the program in detail.
You can also watch a short video about the program, go to http://schoolstore.com/video. Click on the banner that says, "Huggers Only." This is the same video that the students watched on Sept. 7.

What is PBIS?
Our expectations at Grant are for our students to:
- Be Respectful--treating others how you'd like to be treated
- Be Responsible--doing the right thing all of the time, even when no one is watching
- Be Safe--following school rules and procedures to keep everyone safe
We also want to celebrate our students when they follow these expectations. Ask your child about their "green tickets". He or she may have also brought home a Positive Referral Form or been named the class "Student of the Week" for demonstrating excellence in one or more of our expectations.
Counselor's Corner
Introducing... our school counselor intern, Miss Stueckrath! If your students have mentioned a new "teacher" in the building named Miss S, they may be talking about the school counseling intern who will be with us until March. You can meet her at after school duty on Mondays and Thursdays, or at Parent-teacher conferences this month.
There has been some news about lead poisoning lately, and just how dangerous it is for children. Most of the homes in the Grant area are old enough (built before 1978) to contain lead paint. Here is some information on lead poisoning and a graphic on easy steps to prevent lead poisoning in your children. You can also click on the infographic below to see more information about lead poisoning.
