Dear Parents,
Hooray for summertime! We know that you are looking forward to a more relaxed schedule and some summer fun just as we are. Please remember to include reading as part of your summertime activities. Studies show that students who read at least 6 books on their grade level can avoid the “summer slide”! We have listed some reading suggestions and ideas for you. Please note there are no required reading lists, but READING DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS IS IMPERATIVE TO YOUR CHILD’S SUCCESS! Have a fantastic summer and KEEP READING!!!

Tips for Keeping Your Student Reading:
- Make reading part of every day.
- Use the Chatterkid app and let them retell the story they read.
- Listen to books on tape when you travel.
- Take a trip to the public library and let them choose what they want to read.
- Make reading a special event by choosing a special place or time of day.
- Ask older siblings to read to younger siblings.
- Let students choose their own books so that reading doesn't become a chore.
- Subscribe to a magazine of your child's choice.
- Crack open a dictionary or go to dictionary.com to learn new words.
- Have your child connect a book to a real world experience.
- For younger students, read it again and again and again.
- Act out a story with puppets.
- Read the book from one of their favorite movies.
- Try Magic Ink books from the App store.
- Make a summer reading chain for a great visual of books your child reads.
- Read for different purposes including how-to sites, instructions for a game, or recipes on Pinterest.
