Week of March 18th - 24th

Hello Riverside County!

We hope you enjoyed a warm weekend with the ones you love! All around Riverside County the hills are beautiful emerald green, bursting with wildflowers! Have you had the opportunity to get outside for a hike or to observe the jaw-dropping butterfly migration? If not, drop what you are doing and go! Fresh air and sunshine are so good for the homeschool soul. I know that all of nature is calling my name! I need to force myself to put down the books and computers and make our way out to explore all that surrounds us. An excellent and thorough education can happen outdoors if you allow yourself the freedom to roam. Give it a shot! You won't regret it.

In this week's newsletter, we have a 'Curriculum Spotlight' on Moxie Box Art kits ! Our 'Vendor Spotlight' features And All That Jazz!

Make sure to read about both in this edition.

Also, be sure to check out Inspiration Station.

It is filled with so many amazing field trips designed by our HSTs and Liaisons just for you! Scroll through every so often so that you can see all that is being offered throughout Southern California!

Please reach out anytime and get to know us!

We are so happy to answer all of your questions and guide you through

learning about homeschool philosophy, curriculum, and the homeschool lifestyle!

Don't let yourself drown in worry or fear over homeschooling.

If you find yourself there, reach out!

We are hoping to connect with you soon!

Great News for Readers!

Inspire is excited to announce that we now offer Accelerated Reader for students in TK-12th grade! The cost for this program is just $20 per student in instructional funds and can be requested through your HST. Please note this program does not include books.

Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computer program that helps parents manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child selects a book rather than having one assigned to them and reads it at their own pace. This makes reading a much more enjoyable experience as they can choose books that are interesting to them. They may also read articles of interest right on the screen. When finished, your child will take a short quiz on the computer. (Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.) In addition, when an LP meeting comes up, you can easily print up the list of books that your child read and share it with your HST.

If you are interested in signing up for Accelerated Reader, please let your HST know. They will be happy to assist you.

Every Kid in a Park!

Did you know? There is a federal public lands youth initiative to get all 4th graders and their families to experience the places that are home to our country’s natural treasures, rich history, and vibrant culture.

To help engage and create our next generation of park visitors, supporters and advocates, Federal Land Management agencies, launched the Every Kid in a Park initiative. The immediate goal is to provide an opportunity for each and every 4th-grade student across the country to experience their federal public lands and waters in person throughout the school year.

Every year, beginning September 1, all kids in the fourth grade have access to their own Every Kid in a Park pass at www.everykidinapark.gov. This pass provides free access to national parks across the country.

The Every Kid in a Park pass is good for the 4th grade school year, until August 31, 2019. Information on obtaining the pass is available by visiting www.everykidinapark.gov.

This Week's Curriculum Spotlight: Moxie Box Art

MoxieBox

Each art box project is carefully designed to nurture creativity and instill confidence regardless of personal conception of artistic abilities. Every month your child will create a masterpiece they will be proud of and you will want to display throughout your home as you watch their confidence grow. Our hope and vision is to help each and every child explore their inner creativity and learn to express and appreciate their own artistic potential while enjoying the arts in new ways each month.

Teaching Tip of the Week: Mood changers in the homeschool classroom.

All homeschool parents know how hard it can be to spend their days attempting to educate their group when dealing with bad attitudes, sickness, weather conditions keeping you indoors or just plain old boredom. Here are a few reminders to help combat the difficulties that can make their way into your week. Try changing up the mood by implementing these simple changes.

Turn up the music! Music can affect the mind drastically! Upbeat music can excite and energize while classical can get the brain ready for the day's tasks ahead. Remembering to use music throughout the day can add fuel to the fire in your homeschool day.

Plan a playdate! Truly, play can spark excitement and reset the tired mind. Little ones and big ones alike can all benefit from a strategic play date. Need one once per week? Don't be afraid to work that into your schedule and make space for friends in your homeschool week. Who knows, with enough time spent together on a regular basis maybe you and your homeschool friends will form a fun co-op where learning and play coexist! Give it a try!

Change up your school time schedule! Do you usually school first thing in the morning and try to finish up sometime after lunch? If you all are experiencing burnout, consider changing the times you homeschool. Spend your morning and afternoon visiting with family, working on a project or serving others. Then come together for school before dinner in that window of time that is always hard to fill. Maybe school work like reading and workbooks will fill that void while dinner is being prepared and little bodies are ready to sit for a while after a full day. Experiment a little and see if the schedule changes make a difference for your kids.

If you are struggling to find solutions to a challenging homeschool day, please reach out! We are here for you! Let us help you find the path that best suits your family!

Audrey Everson

Hi everyone! I am a mom of 3 awesome kids ranging in age from 10 to 6 years old. My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have been married for 16 years. Having homeschooled our children over the last 6 years in 3 different states, I've found homeschooling here in California, especially with Inspire Charter, has been a great fit for our homeschool journey. I am grateful for our ability to homeschool so freely and I aspire to assist other families with their own homeschool adventures!
