Lead Learner Letter
Hello KP Families,
As we near the end of February and prepare for March, I am awed by how quickly a year moves. Can you believe it is already the end of February?! Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve had some great things happening at school. It is Black History Month, and a number of our Advisory classes are participating in our annual Black History Month Door Decorating Contest. Judging will take place on March 13th. We are also honoring the contributions of Black Americans to our collective history through quotes on the daily announcements, posters throughout the building, highlighting events, people, and Historically Black Colleges. We have welcomed the Year of the Rat with several activities thanks to Mrs. Guo and Mrs. Yao. We have had a dancing dragon, dumpling making, dinners at Hibachi restaurants, and a 6th Grade Chinese New Year Celebration. In two weeks, we will have the first of three days of spring parent/caregiver-teacher conferences. If you have not received a paper copy or an email with details, please contact your child’s team leader or advisory teacher. As we near the end of February and head into March, please know that we continue to focus on building a community of kindness through our advisory and team activities. I am blown away daily by the thoughtfulness I see in students every day. Have you seen our Felekey Force kindness grams? Be on the lookout for ways that we reinforce this.
This newsletter is chalked full of information and opportunities. I hope you take the time to read through it this week.

COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITIES AND EVENTS
"Public Act 16-189
We believe that it is vital for all students in West Hartford Public Schools to be able to efficiently and effectively use digital tools that empower them in all phases of the learning process, including research, problem solving, content creation, communication, and collaboration. We also believe that we must be committed at all times to protecting students' privacy and providing them with a powerful and safe educational experience. To that end, the West Hartford Public Schools follow the legal requirements of Public Act 16-189 to promote the safety and security of all students and staff.
In compliance with Connecticut State Law, we update online programs used within the district that house student data. The programs may be used district-wide, in a very small number of classrooms, or with individual students. The list will be updated each time the district enters into a new contract where student data is housed. For more information on the specifics of Public Act 16-189 and updates of vendor agreements, visit www.whps.org/pa189."
