Harbor Seals

Help save our endangerd friends!

Why are they endangerd? What are people doing to save them?

- Due to fishing gear , harbor seals are also threatened by pollution and reprisal killings for damage done to fisheries.

- The Pacific Wildlife Foundation, WWF, and the NWF are major funds to help save the harbor seals and other marine animals.

- Help NWF to protect the harbor seals habitat.

Food & Habitat

- Resting sites may be both rugged, rocky coasts, shorelines , or sandy beaches.

  • - The harbor seal is a carnivore. It hunts fish and other sea animals.
  • - Harbor seals are found in coastal waters in the North Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
  • -They eat small to medium-sized fishes, including cod, mackerel, and herring, as well as octopus, squid, and crustaceans. Shrimp are especially important to young harbor seal pups.
  • - Because harbor seal pups feed on important species, they often come into conflict with fishermen.

    - Adult harbor seals are hunted by orcas, large sharks and polar bears.



    - They move their back flippers from side to side to move themselves forward, and use their front flippers to help them move around.

    - 1.5-1.8 m (five-six feet) in length

    -115 kg (250 pounds) in weight
