Deep Thoughts
Team,
What a great start to the school year! I loved visiting your classrooms this week! You were prepared, your students were engaged and learning was taking place!
Here are the expectations for EVERY class period EVERY day:
1. Learning Objective
2. Instructional strategies that challenge students to think critically, problem solve, collaborate, create and engage.
3. Differentiation for all learners
4. Assessment of learning objective
If you are starting to have a panic attack about anything listed above, please see Lauren or Bobbe! :-)
As you are designing lessons, Friday, September 13 will be hectic! We will be taking school photos and hosting a Valor Gold Medalist assembly in the TCC Theater during 2nd period. More details will be forthcoming, but wanted it on your radar! Don't forget to sign up in the Phoenix News Open House google doc for how many are attending Open House dinner! We need your family number by Sept. 6.
T-TESS Info

September 27 - Deadline to submit T-TESS Goal - Setting Document in Perform
Check-in
I would like to meet with every teacher next week for a quick check-in (15 minutes). Here are the 3 questions we are going to discuss.
1. Looking into the future; What do you hope to be a point of pride about this school year in May 2020?
2. What do you need to make that happen?
3. What are you stressed about right now?
Use this link to sign up for your time! Teacher Check-in
Next week: I will be at Principal's Meeting Wednesday morning and Matthew will be at the AP meeting in the afternoon. I will be out on Friday for my scheduled visit with my new granddaughter. Matt Mays will be here on Tuesday, 2nd period. If you have something happening in your classroom that day that you would like highlighted, let me know and I will make sure he stops by. We will celebrate our August Staff Member of the Month on Friday. Please write notes to your colleagues that have supported you or that you have noticed their excellence!
This week's Pump it Up is a CA classic brought to you by Little Prince, Mark Dye! Check it out in its new location at the end of the Heartbeat! :-) Send me your selection or it is back to Boomer Sooner for next week!
Hey after this week, take Monday off! You deserve it!

Together we will make a difference!

Mr. White Says...
Saw this yesterday. I see parallels with our work.
"I think there are ways to create a bonsai well, but I don't know if there are ways to create a bonsai right."
I don't think there is any one right way to educate, but I do believe there are ways to do it well. Our craft is human, and as such, we are denied the pleasure of sitting back at the end of a hard day and looking at the results of our work. The change is near invisible most of the time, but it's there. I hope we always remember that we move our students one direction or another every day.
Onward, ever Upward!

Cav's Concerns
1. TA Program- If you want a student as a TA in one of your class periods I need the following information:
- What is the student's name
- What period do you want them to be your TA
- Are you ok with them being on a separate roll sheet that you'll be responsible for
2. Mental Health Check-Ins- You guys are far more likely to hear about a student struggling than I am. If you comfortable helping the student through that, by all means help that student. If you need additional resources to help that student let me know and I can give you what you need. If you want to just refer them to me, that's fine too. That being said, we have to make sure that we are checking in on these kids (especially our freshmen and sophomores) during SOAR. If they're struggling we've got to help them!
3. Student Guided Mental Health Club- A student has approached Julie and I about leading a mental health club. We will be meeting to discuss what that should look like but if any of you have anything you could add to that it would be greatly appreciated! Anything you could offer would be great so that we could show that CA is united in a commitment to promote mental health.
