The Connection Week 2 Term 3
Huapai District School 5th August 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Three heads are better than one!
Watching the Black Ferns win their gold medal on the weekend was a thrilling experience. The way the women worked together as a team is a powerful statement of what can be achieved when a team has the same drive and focus. The Black Ferns team is made up of outstanding individuals, each a talented player in their own rights, led by the humble and powerful Sarah Hirini. When the individuals combine, that’s when the magic happens!
The same is true here at Huapai District School. We have outstanding students, whanau and staff. When we all work together with the same vision of a gold standard for our students, that’s when the magic happens. We are so grateful to have you in the HDS team.
When John was away last term, Keryn and I learned so much more about the workings of the school. We enjoyed the challenges and viewing things from different perspectives. We grew as individuals and as a team. One of the things that we both particularly enjoyed was getting to know a wider group in our community through a variety of ways, so we are keen to continue to support our captain and our team by using our individual strengths as we all drive our school towards gold. One of the small ways we seek to add to our team vision is by writing in the newsletter more regularly.
This term is another busy one, where we all pull together as a school community to support our children, to cheer them on, to celebrate their achievements and to be there with them as they go for gold! We all have our part to play - let’s do that together as a team and feel the magic happen.

Getting To Know...
Kelly Charteris
Hi, I’m Kelly and I am the Learning Support Coordinator at Huapai. I have been working here for 18 months now and really love my job. When I was younger, I lived in Switzerland for a year. In my spare time I enjoy playing board games and I can also play the saxophone.

Cross Country
The school cross country will be held on Thursday 19th August (Week 4 Term 3).
The event will be held at the Huapai Domain, same as last year, and we welcome all families to join us for the event and lunch. Please see the document linked below for everything you need to know.
Keen To Be An Active Member Of The HFN Team?
All Huapai families are members of our school Huapai Families Network. The facebook page is linked below.
This means that you are all invited to join our school wide community events. If you are keen to be a more active member of the team by coming along to a termly meeting and helping to plan events, please get in touch with our chairperson Katie Lean: katie.lean@hds.school.nz.
We are aiming to hold a meeting in the next week or so.
Yummy Apple Stickers
We have 7 weeks to get our apple stickers back to school. If you have any Yummy brand apple stickers, please collect them and send them into school. We send these away later in the term and earn our school free sports gear.
Driving On School Grounds
The school driveway is reserved for emergency and staff vehicles only. We have noticed an increase in cars driving onto school grounds recently, especially at drop off and pick up times. This is a health and safety risk. We therefore request that you please park on the road when dropping off or collecting your child(ren).
We also ask that you please refrain from parking across the school driveway, even for a short period of time, as this prevents authorised vehicles from entering or exiting the school.
Bricks 4 Kids
Does your child love Lego? We are pleased to be able to offer an after school wider opportunity this term. If your child is interested, please contact the Bricks 4 Kidz team directly to register.
These sessions will be in Studio 2 on Tuesday afternoons. There are limited spaces. Suitable for ages 6+.
