Lincoln Middle School -- Weekend Update
NO SCHOOL Friday, October 20, 2023
Hello Lincoln Community,
Throughout October, students will learn about empathy as part of our work with the Portrait of a Graduate. Being empathetic means understanding and feeling how someone else is feeling. We can put ourselves in their shoes and show them kindness and support. Through these activities, we will define what empathy looks like, sounds like, and feels like throughout the day. This process will be repeated throughout the year with the other Portrait of a Graduate components: collaborative, critical thinker, resilient, and adaptable.
Additionally, students will discuss how to recognize and stop bullying as part of Second Step® lessons, which includes being an upstander (someone who stands up for a person being bullied). Prior to these lessons, a letter will be sent home to families describing the specific content covered in this unit for sixth-eighth grade students.
Best of luck to these athletes who will represent Lincoln Middle School as our Cross Country Team at State in Bloomington IL this weekend! We are proud of the entire Cross Country team and Mrs. Bailey and Mr. Shaffer . . . great job all the way around!

Erin's Law Presentations
As we look ahead, we wanted to let you know that all of our students will participate in a classroom presentation delivered by our mental health team: Grace Sefton (School Social Worker), Steve Henkel (School Counselor), and Chris Steininger (School Social Worker) to educate in an age-appropriate way about childhood sexual abuse.
A separate presentation has been prepared for each grade. 6th grade will focus on empowerment and safe vs. unsafe touches. The 7th grade will focus on sexual harassment and reporting. 8th grade will focus on teen dating violence and consent. These presentations will occur during the week of October 23rd and happen during your students’ gym/health class.
Meet The Lincoln Administration Team - October 16, 6:00 pm
Information From The Front Office
- PTO SPIRIT WEAR ORDERS will be distributed to students on Monday, 10.16.23.
- HR IMAGINING PROOF SHEETS (school pictures) will be distributed in Advisory on Monday, 10.16.23. PICTURE RETAKES are scheduled for November 8, 2023.
- All items remaining in the LOST AND FOUND will be donated to charity on Friday, 10.27.23. Please remind your students to stop by sometime before then to look for any missing items.
- All phones in the building register the main office line on your Caller ID. We ask parents to listen to messages before calling back. School personnel, if at all possible, will leave a message for you. We ask students who use school phones to also leave a message, as we have numerous students placing calls home from the office. Unfortunately, the office can not determine which phone in the building was used to place a call to you.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
- November 1 | 7:30-3:00
- November 8 | 3:15-5:45
- November 15 | 3:15-5:45
Parent-teacher conferences are crucial for fostering communication, aligning goals, and creating a collaborative support system between educators and parents. They provide a platform to discuss a child's academic progress, address concerns, and ensure a unified effort in promoting the child's success and well-being. On October 15, at 7:00 pm, we will be emailing links to sign up for the conferences.
Parents of 8th Graders: Response Requested from the Health Office
If your 8th grade student wears glasses or contacts, please complete this form before October 27. Thank you! If you prefer NOT to use a google form, please email Mrs. Smith at ssmith@d57.org with the date of your student's last eye exam and whether they wear glasses and/or contacts.
