Note From Mr. Rustad: It's B.E.S.T. Year Ever at Kennedy!

Kennedy Families,

Welcome back to school! My name is Steve Rustad and I am the new principal at Kennedy. I am so happy and excited to be at Kennedy. My own children attend Kennedy so I have known what a great school it is for a long time. Kennedy has a great reputation as a school that cares for all kids and welcomes all families. I look forward to meeting all of the Kennedy families throughout this year!

The school year is off to a great start at Kennedy Elementary School. Our Cubs are learning about how to be their B.E.S.T. At Kennedy, this means:

B - Be Safe and Healthy

E - Engage for Best Learning

S - Show Respect to Others

T - Treat Property with Respect

Check out some of the great pictures from the first days of school!

News and Notes

New Teachers at Kennedy

We have three new teachers at Kennedy this year.

  • Reanne Berhow - Mrs. Berhow joins our Kennedy family this year as our new Media teacher. Mrs. Berhow teaches all students in grades K-5.
  • Alex Wischnack - Mr. Wischnack is a new 5th grade teacher at Kennedy this year.
  • Paige Zeman - Ms. Zeman is a new Special Education teacher at Kennedy this year.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up at Kennedy

AM Drop-Off Procedures: Kennedy School is open for all students starting at 7:40 AM. Breakfast is open to all students starting at that time. All students should head directly to the playground unless they are eating breakfast. Please remember that there is no supervision for your student on the playground if they arrive before 7:40 AM. The front doors will remained closed until this time. If you are a family in need of supervision for your student in the morning, please consider our morning ACES program.

To help ensure safety and security at our school, we will have all students enter Kennedy through the front doors at the beginning of the day. The side bus door will no longer be open before school. This will start on Monday, September 23. You may continue to drop off your students on the Kennedy Street side of the building but the will need come to the front the building to enter.

PM Pick-Up Procedures: Students will be dismissed at 2:30. The doors to the school will remain locked until that time. Students in grades K-2 will come out of the front doors and students in grades 3-5 will come out of the doors on the Kennedy Street side. Parents who are picking up are encouraged to stay out of the parking lot. It can become a student and family safety concern when cars are pulling into and out of the parking lot. Many students are walking and biking on the sidewalk and we want them to have a safe crossing by the parking lot.

PTO Fall Fitness Frenzy Fundraiser Update

The Fall Fitness Frenzy Fundraiser is in full swing! Please take a moment to register your CUB online at:

www.getmovinfundhub.com

School identifier code: 5d4c3ba9d6d02

PLEASE JOIN US for the FiTnEsS FrEnZy on Friday, October 4th! Each class will participate in the fitness frenzy during their Specials time on Friday (Phy. Ed, Music, Art, Media). Please check with your child's teacher to verify your child's fitness frenzy time!

Our school goal is $10,000! IF we reach this goal, the PTO will install a GaGa Ball pit on the playground. The remaining funds will be used to support our CUBS with field trips, classroom needs, FUN family nights and a variety of teacher requests. THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

What is EXCEL?

Excel is an after school intervention for students who are in need of a little additional reading and math instruction. Students are recommended for this program by their classroom teachers. If your child is recommended, you will receive registration information from the teacher. We use multiple data points to identify students for this program. If you have questions about the registration form or the registration process, please call the Kennedy office.

This year Excel will once again be offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It starts on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019 and will end on Wednesday, March 25th 2019.

Help Students Avoid Distractions from Learning

It is our goal to provide a highly engaging learning environment at Kennedy Elementary School. To ensure this for our students, we want to eliminate distractions. If your students has a smart phone or smart watch, it should be left at home. By leaving these devices at home, students are more able to engage in their best learning. If you have a message for your student during the day, please contact the school.

Title 1 Services at Kennedy

Kennedy is a Schoolwide Title 1 School. In the past, Title 1funds were available to

provide additional support to students who qualified based on their test scores. As a Schoolwide Title 1 school we are now able to utilize those resources more flexibly to support any students that would benefit. This fits wonderfully with our small group instruction blocks when students receive acceleration or enrichment based on their specific needs. Feel free to contact the school if you have questions.

As a parent, you have the right to request information about the qualifications of your child’s teacher(s). For further information, contact Steve Rustad, principal at Kennedy Elementary.
