Panther Post
April 9th - April 14th
Hello Lopez Families,
Back in January I wrote about one of our talented students, Alexander Yiannos, who qualified for the state competition in Reflections, a National PTA program. His entry was a music composition titled The Journey Within. Alexander just received the highest award - The Overall Award of Excellence! This award is difficult to achieve because only one entry from each art category/age division in the state is chosen. Alexander will now compete at the national level with the other students who won their art categories and age divisions for their states. Let’s all congratulate Alexander as he represents Jose M Lopez, NEISD and Texas at Nationals! He is a true leader in musical composition and we know he has a bright future ahead of him! Congratulations, Alexander! (Pictured below)
I would also like to congratulate our boy's and girl's track teams. Last week was the district Large Zone Track Meet. We had 22 girls and 17 boys qualify for the Meet of Champs this week. Our 7th grade boys won 1st place overall.
Have a wonderful week!
Sincerely,
Mr. Wernli

Edible Book Festival
Friends of NEISD Libraries (FONEL) is very excited to sponsor the 2nd Annual Edible Book Festival on May 6th from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. at Madison High School Library. The Edible Book Festival is an opportunity for book lovers, book artists, and food lovers around the world to gather to celebrate the devouring of words on pages and the literal ingestion of culture. There will be family fun for all ages with the judging of edible book creations, a photo booth, a baking inspired break out session, cookie decorating, cupcake liner crafts, and face painting! There will also be some great silent auction items, including a large canvas print by local photographer, Joe Chidgey, Whataburger basket with Whataburger for a year, Scholastic Book Fair Literacy basket, plus some librarian created baskets.
Participants can create an "edible book," which can be inspired by a favorite tale, involve a pun on a famous title, or simply be in the shape of a book (or scroll, or tablet, etc). All entries will be exhibited, judged, and documented. Photographs of all edible books will appear in the Edible Book Festival gallery. All entries must be 95% edible - toothpicks, straws, skewers, and other support materials are admissible. Creations also must survive at room temperature and will not be refrigerated. Find full submission rules and register your edible book creation today by visiting the FONEL website.

Synergy - Working together
By synergizing, we learn to value each other’s differences and celebrate our diversities. We are all different, and we are all good at different things. We must celebrate the ways that we are different and honor the greatness in each of us, as we are all special in our own way.

A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM LOPEZ PTA
The Executive Board, comprised of six officers and committee chairpersons, facilitate the Lopez PTA. Committee chairpersons are responsible for an event or ongoing activity and, utilizing a committee of volunteers, execute the events within the given time period and budget. Without committee chairpersons, our PTA events cannot happen. We would love to have you as a part of our team! If you are interested in a committee chairperson position, please indicate your areas of interest by ranking the positions in order of preference. Thank you for your consideration!
