Updates from Manassas Park Middle School - 1/11/2019

Week 19 - Final Preparation for SOLs in 8th Grade!

This week featured lots of reviews and starting on final assignments and projects for second quarter - see the teacher tweets section for lots of GREAT examples of student work!

Next week features the SOL test for our 8th grade students in Civics and Science. All 8th grade students will be testing on Thursday, January 17th. This test will begin at 7:25 - so it is critical that all 8th grade students arrive to school on time, fully rested, and have eaten breakfast. We want all students to do their best on the test - it is a chance to show what they know!

Lastly, there are only 8 school days left in first semester, including our early release day on 1/24. Please check grades and talk with your child about their current performance - including anything they can do to maximize their grade for report cards. I would LOVE to have even more students earn Honor Roll recognition for second quarter!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Katie Chambers, who won the Martin Luther King Jr Oratorical Contest for Manassas Park Middle School. Her speech focusing on individual actions that lead to bigger change was based on this year's theme of Small Things in Great Ways. It was outstanding!

She will represent Manassas Park Middle on 1/21 (MLK Day) at Hylton Memorial Chapel with other middle and high school winners from Prince William County, Manassas City, and Manassas Park.

Great Job Katie!

Boys Winter Sports are Almost Here!

If your son would like to participate in Boys Basketball or Wrestling, their season is coming up!

All athletes must have a physical on file with the middle school AND complete concussion training for that school year. If your child previously participated in fall sports in 2018, their paperwork is still valid. Paperwork from previous school years is no longer valid.

Questions? Want to check if your son's paperwork is up to date?

Email Ms. Webb, our Athletic Director at susan.webb@mpark.net

I hear it might snow this weekend?

A reminder about MPCS' closing and delay procedures due to inclement weather: The division's "snow team" will make a decision that will be communicated through PowerSchool Alerts and media outlets no later than 5:30-6:00 am. Should there be no announcement by 6 am, school will open on a normal schedule.

For details about any/all inclement weather procedures, click on the link below!

For just Middle School students - should school be cancelled, the elective day will be cancelled as well. So if Monday is a B day and students return to school on Tuesday, they will return on an A day. (The elective calendar does not reset due to snow.)

And if you want to be the first to know - the first public alert comes through Dr. McDade's twitter account - so make sure you follow @MPCSmcdade
