A Peak at our Week:
Our focus is on main idea/details and text features that help with comprehension. There will be an open book quiz on some of the articles in the magazine on Friday the 18th.
Science: We are beginning our "trek" to the rain forests of South America! As part of our "journey" each student will be creating a terrarium to serve as a model of the rain forest. This requires a 2 liter soda bottle with the cap! Please send in one or two or three :) by Thursday this week.
We will be making our terrariums next week.
Math: While continuing to learn about multiplication we have discovered the relationship between multiplication and division! We are learning about inverse operations, factors, multiples and fact families.
The best way to learn division is by studying multiplication! Please continue to encourage and help your child memorize multiplication facts. They have begun creating flash cards that they can bring home any day as long as they remember to bring them back to school.
We will take a QUIZ ON FRIDAY OCTOBER 18th that will cover algebraic expressions. EXAMPLE:
24=___x6 6=____/3 (DIVISION) ANSWERS-4 AND 18
Social Studies:
We are beginning our unit on the 5 regions of the United States. We just completed the Northeast Region. Students are creating a book to help them learn the regions. They will need to know:
1. The states in each region
2. Where they are located on a map
3. The climate of the region
4. Land forms associated with the region
5. Landmarks
All of this information can be found in the book they are creating.
The quiz for the NORTHEAST REGION is this Thursday. All quizzes will done in small chunks, they will not have to label all 50 states on a blank map.
