Preparing for Online Classes
West Central High School - Tuesday 21, September, 2021
Dear West Central Families,
Due to operational challenges, Alberta Education has approved a request from Wild Rose School Division to move all of the students and staff at West Central High School to online, at-home learning starting Wednesday, September 22 through to and including October 5, 2021.
Students will connect synchronously with their teachers at their regularly scheduled class times. If this presents a problem for any students, please contact the school for support.
All students and staff will return to in-class instruction at the school on Wednesday, October 6, 2021. Operational effectiveness and the safety of our students and staff will continue to guide our decisions in these matters.
Students can log onto their Google Classrooms for their lessons and important information from their teachers. Stay connected!

If you have trouble with the internet, please tell your teachers and paper learning resources will be made available.
Students that need the support of our Family Wellness Workers Leah Casey and Tegan Fandrick, can email them to make arrangements.
What if we do not have adquate internet to connect?
- As with previous online learning if you do not have internet or cannot connect, please contact your school for support. We have different ways to ensure your child can stay caught up.
- Students can check out Chromebooks from the library (open 8:30 - 4:00)
- Teachers can provide paper packages (Arrange for pick up at WCHS office Mon to Friday 8:30 - 4:00)
What Does Online Learning Look Like?
All students are required to continue with their learning online; you must complete your learning and outcomes.
Students are expected to connect with their course teachers during their timetabled blocks through Google Classroom and Google Meet.
Block 1 courses will have learning time during block 1 times with their block 1 teacher, block 2 courses will have learning time during block 2 times with their block 2 teacher etc. This does not mean, however, that students will be in an 85 minute google meet everyday like a face-to-face class. The class time may consist of a google meet that includes the lesson preview and instruction for 20 min, and the remainder of the time could be used for small group tutorial work or the teacher being available on google meet for questions or individual support. Teachers may have weekly plans that include two or three 20 min. blocks of direct instruction along with time for support and intervention.
Attendance will be taken daily at the start of each class and absence phone calls will go home.
If you child is ill and not able to participate in the online class, please call the school.
There will be a balance between types of learning in each block and throughout the day.
What Supports are Available?
