What's been happening in the land of learning?
Hello Everyone,
We had a great short week in grade 1! We have begun to wrap up some of our units with assessments and projects as we near the end of the year. The students worked hard to show all they know on our math assessment and performed spectacular Reader's Theaters. As other activities wind down, we will continue to focus on group work and practicing our ASD values. Next week, we are also looking forward to publishing our last personal narratives and continuing our ABC countdown.
May 29 - Quiet Day (we will see who can be the quietest !)
May 30 - Read Day
May 31 - Stuffed Animal Day (you may bring a favorite stuffed animal to school)
June 1 - T-Shirt Day (wear your favorite t-shirt to school)
June 2 - Once Upon a Time Day (fairy tale activities!)
We were finally able to try out the Minecraft program during one of our explore times this week. The students play in pairs for now and are excited to discover the controls and participate in the shared world with their classmates. Next week, I hope to make the program available during two of our explore times for about 20 minutes each time. If you would like your child not to participate please let me know.
We have two special activities planned for the students next week. On Monday, we will get to hear some amazing stories told by professional story teller Naill de Burca, and on Tuesday we will have a visit from some local firefighters to help us learn about specialized jobs in the community. Fun!
Lastly, we will not be issuing any more homework papers for the year, and students will not be brining home any more books from the classroom or library as we start to take inventory and track down missing books for next year. Our library provides a great list of online resources for reading or listening to stories, and if you need any login information for Raz-Kids or Myon reprinted just let me know. If you find any of our books at home please send them back to school =) For Math homework, please enjoy the math games packet that was sent home at the Winter Break.
Thank you for all your time and support at home!!
