Ms. Tate's News Blast
So much is happening in our room!!
Can you believe this weather?? Please remind your child to dress warm enough for recess even though the weather is warmer than usual.
Reminder, our last day of school for 2015 is Friday, December 18th. School resumes again on Monday, January 4th.
Please continue to check your child's words read each weekend. I am very happy with how much reading is taking place in room 167. The more interested you are in your child's reading the more excited they will be too!! Our classroom runs on "Trimester" goals. November 30th was the end of Trimester 1. I will be sending home a report which will have all of the books your child has read. Please take a moment to look it over with your child.
The Bakken house Field Trip was amazing. We have completed our Electricity and Magnetism Unit. Please watch for your child's Unit Report which will come home after winter break. The Midwest Region is our first region we will study in Social Studies.
We are finishing up Chapter 6 - Multi Digit Multiplication in Math and will be taking the test before Winter Break. I am pleased to tell you that the effort your child is putting in to their daily homework is really paying off. Please continue to check in with your child about their Countby Packets. As a reminder, all students should be finished with their Countbys by Winter break. Knowing their multiplication facts fluently is so very important!! You can help your child by checking in with them everyday and asking if you can quiz them on the card they have in their planner!! 5+ minutes each evening/weekend will help them get to the December 18th Goal!! Be a strong cheerleader for your child!! If your child has completed their countbys they should be working on XTRA Math every evening. This will take them through addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts.
The students are enjoying our Jan Brett Unit. As we work through a few of Ms. Brett's amazing books we are reviewing the Focus Skills we have learned this school year. We are also learning about Biographies. Your child will write a biography on Jan Brett as a culminating activity at the end of the Unit. They will also be illustrating a picture that will represent their favorite Jan Brett book. They are learning all about what it means to be a published author and illustrator.
I ask that you remind your child to read their chapter book over break. They will have their IPad home with them so working on Lexia and/or Moby Max Informational and Literature activities would be wonderful as well. XTRA Math sessions as well as Moby Max math would also be something they could spend time on.
Thank you again for all that you do to help your child be a successful 4th Grader!!
Sincerely,Ms. Teresa A. Tate
