Mrs. Hoehner's Weekly Wrap - Up
All you need to know about our life in 3rd grade!
Teacher's Corner!
WOOOOOHOOOOOO! I could not be any happier with the growth that our MAP testing shows. A huge part of third grade is learning to have GRIT!! They have definitely shown grit, and because of that, our math and reading scores increased dramatically. A big THANK YOU to you at home for encouraging that reading life!
IMPORTANT SNOW DAY INFORMATION
I have a feeling we have a few snow days right around the corner. On these days, especially the REALLY good ones when we are all snowed in, reading is a great way to pass the time! Having your student log in to Lexia and Dreambox are fantastic, educational (quiet) time passers as well!
Please make sure that you return your early release information. This information came home last week, it is on a gold piece of paper. I sent home extra's today. These are really important in the event of early release due to inclement weather.
Reading, Writing and Word Work
FUN STUFF IS HAPPENING IN THIRD GRADE WE READING!!! We are beginning our book clubs. The students are so excited about their new books and the groups that they will journey with through the book with. I want you give you just a bit of info about the book clubs and how they will work....
1. Student groups and designated book have been selected by me.
2. Students will work to set page goals for their group. The key to making book clubs work is to make sure that everyone is reading the same pages at the same time.
3. Students will ONLY read the designated pages for HW. DO NOT READ AHEAD in the book club book. To complete HW minutes they may choose a different book to read the remainder of the HW time of they finish their book club pages.
4. IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT for students to complete their book club reading so that they are prepared for their group work on the next day!!!
In writing we are venturing into reinventing fairy tales. We are discovering that authors turn class fairy tales into new writings all the time. These discovery lessons help us prepare to adapt our own fairy tale.
