President's Note

Dear Members,

Summer Greetings! My name is Judith (Judy) Shaw and I am the new Missouri State President for 2021-2023. There are many happenings despite a year and a half of Covid. All of us should be masters of virtual communication by now, right?

The slate of Missouri State Officers for 2021-2023 is:

President – Judith Shaw

1st Vice President – Marshnee Strong

2nd Vice President – Marlana Strasburg

Treasurer – Duane Langley

Recording Secretary – Anne Gassel

Corresponding Secretary - Donna Kinslow

Thanks to our past president, Connie Craig, for attending a virtual meeting of State Presidents while I was traveling.

I look forward to hearing from all of you. Let me know of any questions I might be able to help you with. Here’s to a better year in 2021-22!

The National Convention of NFMC has been postponed until June 13, 2022.

The National Convention will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana at the Sheraton City Centre. Hopefully, several of us can attend next June as it is not a long distance to travel.

Opera in the Ozarks is Now Performing

Opera in the Ozarks in Eureka Springs, Arkansas was postponed in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as you know. However, Opera in the Ozarks is back and performing this summer under a rigid set of Covid-19 protocols. Nancy Preis, the General Director, reports that all singers, staff and workers have are fully vaccinated.

Please join us for Federation Days at Opera in the Ozarks, which will be held July 21-24 in Eureka Springs.

Meetings will include a silent auction. Be prepared to shop, and also contribute items if you can; either bring them with you, if you are attending, or send your items with someone else who is going. And be sure to bring your credit card or check book!

Opera in the Ozarks will feature a family version of Mozart's The Magic Flute on Wednesday, July 21. It is an abridged version which that evening will be coupled with an opera scenes concert by OIO singers.

The July 22 opera is Donizetti's classic drama Lucia di Lammermoor, featuring one of the great soprano scenes in all of opera, the "Mad Scene," which requires some spectacular singing.

The July 23 opera is Massenet's French version of the Cinderella story, called Cendrillon. It is enchanting and romantic and has not been performed at OIO for many years.

I have already received four thank-you notes from students who were able to participate because of our support. Thank you to all of the clubs that made this possible.

When is the next Missouri Federation meeting?

Our Fall Board Meeting is TBA. I hope to meet in person, but it may have to be virtual. I am still investigating a venue. Whenever and wherever it is, I hope to see you there!
