The state is divided into 10 regions and 34 Regional Teachers of the Year are chosen based on regional student population. The honorees are selected by a regional selection committee composed of individuals from the teacher organizations; administrator organizations; and higher education.
As a Regional Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Derner receives a $250 cash award and a plaque and will be honored at a luncheon. She will also be honored the Missouri Teacher of the Year banquet in Jefferson City in October.
